If I could afford staying at the Copley Place, I probably wouldn't worry about "inexpensive" craft beer bars.

Conversely - I could probably afford the stay at Copley if I could find the inexpensive craft beer bars.

Without reading the previous posts, I'd recommend the Avenue and Sunset Grille in Allston. Avenue has 30ish (dont remember actual count), all at 5.50 or 6.50 a pint, many locals, mostly IPAs. Sunset has a huge selection, both domestic and international and usually has beer specials like $4 pints, and a good selection of locals on draft and in bottle

Sunset is old and musty and still mostly caters to college crowds and nostalgia. They party like it's 1999 (complete with lots of Russians in the neighborhood, if anyone gets the joke).

The Phoenix, back in December (before its demise last month) had a list of most interesting beer bars. No mention of prices, but they did gauge them by the breadth of selection:

    Atwood's Tavern, Cambridge 24 taps & 40 bottles
    Bukowski 22 & 150
    CBC 33 & 134
    Deep Ellum, Allston 28 & 150
    Lord Hobo 40 & 40
    The Lower Depths 16 & 180
    Meadhall 112 & 14 (note: all multitap)
    The Publick House & Monk's Cell, Brookline 35 & 130
    Russell House Tavern, Cambridge 13 & 40
    The Salty Pig 12 & 24
    Stoddard's Fine Food & Ale 20 & 50

All but The Lower Depths, Russell House and Stoddard's have already been mentioned multiple times. In case you haven't noticed, this was a Xmas Top 10 list plus 1 Honorable Mention.

    Sunset has a wide selection.
The gaff in waltham is a nice little bar.
Lord hobo is the best spot in the city.
