Found this online store a few weeks ago and am really impressed. They have a pretty good variety of hops and malts for very low prices, and if you order more than 10 pounds of a grain they take an addition 20 cents off per pound. They also have very cheap and fast delivery. I ordered 16 pounds of grain, 5 oz of hops and yeast and only paid $35 with shipping. They are located in Wisconsin about 6 hours from my house and I got it within 24 hours. It is definitely worth checking out, especially if you live in a state around Wisconsin.
$35 to ship 17# to a location less than a six hour transit is not 'very cheap.' My o-LHBS ships FexEx. A 17# order would add less than $13 for shipping.
Shipping was only $7. I think 17 pounds of grain plus 5 oz of hops and a yeast packet for only $35 including shipping is cheap my LHBS was $34 for the grains alone.
$34 for 17 lbs of grain is pretty darn steep. Most of what I buy (grains) is about a buck-twenty a pound or so, and if you count shipping, I don't think it would be possible (for me) to save money by ordering online. My LHBS is pretty good in that respect. Actually, they're pretty good in all respects. $7 for shipping is cheep tho, especially if it got there in a day and your yeast wasn't baked.
IPAdams, You tried valiantly . . . I understood you both times . . . I believe most serious online shoppers got the message.
I think he means $35 for 5oz of hops, 17# of grains, 1 yeast packet, and shipping (which was $7 of the $35) from RiteBrew, or $34 for just grain @ LHBS. Sounds like a great deal.
Lol, yes it was $35 for everything. Much cheaper than I was able to find on any other site I looked at. Thanks portlargo and jbaka for trying to clarify. Vikeman, good laugh after you explained the GDR
