How is this drinking right now? Have some stored away just curious how its doing with almost a year of age on it.

    Cheers!

Age is not doing this one well IMO. I had one fresh and have tried a couple in the last 6 months and there has been a very odd metallic flavor as well some medicinal like notes. Strange since Bramble was significantly better with 1+ years on it.

Had a bottle at a tasting this spring & it was still astoundingly good. Had a pour from a keg about a month ago & again, astoundingly good.

I'd say it's holding up OK!

If you hold a mirror up to iadler's post & reverse everything he says, it's right on. Hell, we were even drinking from the same bottle!:grimacing:

Haha. I think you were in the minority for liking the bottle my friend.

The cherry was fairly subtle when I had on fresh, but it was definitely there, and made it an outstanding BCBS variant.

I would expect the cherry to fade with time, but who knows. If I had another I'd drink it now.

I'm certainly with iadler about Bramble improving. I just drank my last bottle this weekend (was saving it for the winter but got drunk and thought it was perfect for an 80 degrees night) and it seems to still be improving since when I had it a few months ago (thanks again chopper).

Cherry Rye was incredibly medicinal when I had it upon release, and it took me well into 2 hours to choke the whole thing down. I'll be opening another bottle this November and will try to remember to report back here when I do, assuming anyone cares what this drunk thinks. Seems the opinions on this are split, but I'd suspect that it would age similarly to Bramble. My guess is that the 2yr mark will be optimal for developed flavors. Don't hold me to that.

The only time I've tried a BCBS and thought "aging this would be pointless." It tasted like a whiskey-soaked Neapolitan made with cherries instead of strawberries, I don't know what you guys are trying to accomplish by aging it.

And I almost never say that about 13%+ beers.

Opened a couple bottles at a tasting a few weeks ago and I think its better now than fresh. That cherry cough syrup medicine flavor isn't as prevalent and it has smoothed out considerably. Honestly I think its only getting better.

Drank one with my brother and brother in law for my brothers bday August 9th. IMO it's drinking way better now than when it was fresh. Flavors have melded much more and it lost a lot of that "medicine-y" taste.

I don't see how you people have the will power to sit on Cherry Rye like that.

Well in order to drink it I would first have to find it in my disorganized "cellar" :grinning:

Cherry rye was my personal whale for a while..i got a couple bottles from my regular trade partner up in NY then came across a few more. I have six at the moment.. and I don't drink them because I typically want to save them for tastings or for people who have never had them before. I was fortunate to get as many bottles as I did and want to share with my tasting buddies.

on a side note, if you liked cherry rye, you guys should seek out cigar city life is like. it does not have the over powering cherry notes, but more chocolaty profile..with the lower abv, it may end up beating cherry rye as one of my top stouts.

Hmm  The ABV on Life is like is higher than Cherry Rye.

they made a mistake on that and put 15% b/c that's what forgotten island is (the recent released BA quad). life is like comes in at around 11%. forgot to put that disclaimer in :astonished:

Ah, thanks. Wasn't familiar with the beer so I looked it up and then saw 15%. Cheers!

the bottle I opened last week was very nice with no medicinal sucretes flavor. more of a chocolate covered cherry flavor similar to those boxes of brachs you get during the holidays! i found it to be pleasant and well rounded compared to the horror stories i have heard regarding fresh. waaaaaaay better than the bramble i opened prior
