I've had it in bottles and at the brewery on nitro. I think it was better on nitro, but it was still excellent in the bottle. It's an awesome beer; it doesn't have a cough-drop character to it at all.

 

Boulevard had updated their release schedule to reflect that the third Imperial Stout X in the series will be tart cherry. Should be released in September. Cannot wait.

 

Agreed. Many RIS beers already have a fruit forward nature as well..so to get the most out of them drink fresh. LIL was great a year or so out but I can only imagine how much better it was when fresh.

Central Waters Bourbon Barrel Cherry Stout is damn good! It is not readily available, however it is distributed to NY. As for your question on shelf life, I have not found cherry flavors to hold up with aging, rather the cherry fades. Additionally, I think it's worth noting that some cherry brews vary in flavor based on crop from year to year.

 

Starr Hill Shakedown Imperial Chocolate Cherry Stout was pretty good... it certainly delivered what was promised by the name. I think most beers with cherry get mixed reviews, so you'll have ignore BA's aggregate scores.

 

Renaissance Baltic cherry porter is great if you can find it. Not seen it in a whole but still see other beers by them. Not a stout but still close.

Bells is great too. A bit sour for some.

Valiant Brewing makes one called Charnyy Medved that I thought was very good.

 

If you're ever in Vegas, the Triple 7 inside of the Main Street Casino makes the best one I've had. It's decidedly 1990's, but in a good way.

 

I'm in the Syracuse area and Wegmans carries Bell's Cherry Stout in the winter time. I didn't care for it but you should give it a try.

 

It's not a stout but Ommegang's Three Philosophers is a Belgian Quad blended with Liefman's Kreik. There is a subtle cherry finish and the beer ages wonderfully for a few years. Ommegang is world class and right in central NY.
