Bell's cherry stout is great, but it is way better with age on it. Honestly, I think it peaks at about 2 years old.

Hard to do cherry right. Other than world class sours like Alexander, most cherry beer just has a medicinal taste

Except for krieks, I've found that most cherry beers taste unbearably like cough syrup.

I agree with this, and I think it deserves more love than an 81. FWIW to the OP:

    Bottled: 11/13/15.
Black, no light coming through up to the light. A finger of dark tan head that quickly settles to a ring. Good looking carbonation when rocking the glass. The aroma is of brown sugar or thick molasses, milk and dark chocolates, some dark dried fruits like raisins or prunes, and the tartness from the cherry juice is in the background.
Flavor is a nice tart cherry almost immediately that lingers followed by that molasses and chocolate. The beer is really quite tart but not in an off putting way. The feel is average carbonation, a little sticky, medium body. Overall, pretty nice stout. If you like tart chocolate covered cherries with a sticky molasses touch, you might like this.

The label says Porter but the beer is mostly definitely a Stout.

I had a bottle of Bell's Cherry Stout with five years on it. It was fantastic!

Not a stout but one of my top beers ever.......Unfortunately I am told its no longer sold in the states , if it ever was. Purchased in Delaware. Shop said it was a mistake shipment when we went back to get more. Have been looking for over two years for more. Its one of my holy grails right now

    Enjoy
