Just stumbled across this stuff at Whole Foods. Anyone tried using it? No preservatives, 2560 calories per qt. "The equivalent of 25 pounds of cherries per bottle". Going to put some into my sour base this weekend.
Looks like 1 bottle would do 10 gallons at a "Lou Pepe" level of fruit. Stuff is sweet enough to prime with too.
I've never used cherry syrup, or used whole cherries for that matter, but I've heard cherry syrup in a beer can give a medicinal taste and isn't near as a good as using whole fruit.
That doesn't look like a sugary 'syrup,' but rather is a concentrate with all of the water from the berries removed.
I've used something similar to good effect...http://www.amazon.com/Dynamic-Healt...1806&sr=8-1&keywords=cherry+juice+concentrate Unless you are brewing 10 gals, I'd go for something in a smaller bottle.
Nice, this stuff looks even a little thicker than what you used. I'm going to aim for a bit less than half in a 5 gal batch and then probably try to prime the bottles with it too.
I used a similar product from a company called natures flavors (they have other fruit types as well) I used 16oz of the concentrate and about 2lbs of rainier cherries wih pits and it turned out fantastic! Just drink it fast cuz that cherry flavor fades
it was m eh it was more of an earthy depth, maybe slightly nutty. Ive since changed my approach and now use mahlab, which is a dried cherry pit that is very nutty and adds its own cherry flavor as well
use a very very light touch if you grind them, its a flavor that is especially potent and will also ruin keg lines - ask me how i know........
