Couldn't seem to find any previous threads about chestnut beers. Had the Birra Troll Palanfrina tonight. I like the idea but not the execution. Anyone ever had one that you'd recommend?
It's not available anywhere else but the brewpub at Birreria, which is in Mario Batali's Eataly market in NYC, but they have an excellent chestnut ale (I think it's called Wanda?). It's always served on cask. The beers there are a a collaboration between DFH, Birra del Borgo and Baladin.
I've only tried one, Winged Nut by a local brewery named Urban Chestnut Brewing. I hated it and didn't even finish the sample that they gave me. Definitely not for me.
Captain Lawrence Birra DeCicco was made with chestnuts and chestnut honey. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/12959/56468 No longer available (and the last bottle I opened was a sour gusher), but one more for the list.
Petra chestnut ale is made in Corsica and I have always enjoyed it, as well as the Palanfrina. Petra is cheaper in price, though.
