My wife and I are staying at the Westin River North the next couple days. She is attending a conference during the day. I'm looking to find a decent place to grab lunch with a good tap selection (obviously), preferably something that's fairly inexpensive since I'll be eating alone and we will be spending enough money on dinners and such. Being getaway day in MLB maybe someplace with some noontime baseball on TV? Thanks guys, any recommendations are appreciated.
You should hit the streets and see how a hockey town celebrates the cup. After that timothy otooles or monks pub are my recs for that area. Or hop a blue line train to California and eat at revolution. Not sure about tvs there though.
Deep dish isn't for everyone. Personally I love it. The beer selection there will be limited but there shiuld still be a handful of craft options. But seriously, get down to Monroe street. The parade is about to start...
If you do go deep dish and you like sausage on your pie make sure you ask for a party as opposed to crumbled. Edit: patty not party but whatever's clever....
One more tip regarding deep dish. They're made to order so expect to wait at least 30 minutes after placing your order.
Schooling at msu allowed me to develop a profound respect for the red wings and their fans. Arguably the #1professional sports team in the state from my observations. Some rabid hockey fans up there...
Check out Howells and Hood on Michigan Ave as well, 114 handles. Generally a good selection and sometimes they'll tap some pretty nice stuff.
Despite you taking a Wings/Hawks jab, I will advise that Timothy O'Toole's had Zombie Dust on as of yesterday at lunchtime.
Did a mini Chicago tour this week. If you can handle the atmosphere, local option has BCBS, pentagram, alpha Kong and other awesome beers on tap.
Nice recommendation on Monks, got there a few minutes before the Blackhawks faithful showed up. Burger was great, beer was better. $50 later I'm a happy camper!
Got the ZD fix at FFF last night on the way in to town. Best part was I ordered the ZD, had a few pulls , the wife tried it and liked it so I got to go on to War Mullet and the Ewok something or another. Food was FANTASTIC!
Monk's pub across the river has good food and beer: http://www.monkspubchicago.com/ Also good nearby are Stock and Blondes (http://www.stocksandblondesbar.com/on-tap/) and Franklin Tap (http://www.franklintap.com/#!beer-menu/c5on). Timothy O'Tooles also has a decent draft list and good food (http://www.timothyotooles.com/chicago/drinks/) Lou Malnati's is the best deep dish nearby, Wells and Grand. You can stop by the Grand Binny's to pickup Pipeworks beer. You can always hop a train to hit Revolution, Piece (for pizza and beer), Hopleaf, Local Option, Kuma's Too, the list goes on... EDIT; did not see @fatdeets post, but i will second a couple of the reccomendations
Timothy O Tooles was a great recommendation as well. Thanks again guys, my palate and wallet need a rest after that trip!
