I am headed down to Chicago and then Columbus, OH during the week and was looking for some recommendations on places to stop and grab a beer/dinner. Also, was wondering if people had suggestions on places to stop to pick up some things to bring back to Grand Rapids that I can't normally get in Michigan.

    Thanks and cheers!

What dates will you be in Columbus? A brand new place downtown has their grand opening Thursday Evening - The Short North Pint House - http://pinthouse.thecgsgroup.com/

Haymarket Pub & Brewery in downtown Chicago makes some fantastic beer. I would strongly recommend Mathias (Imperial IPA). Good food as well.

This is a pretty comprehensive Columbus thread: http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/canuck-seeking-advice-on-columbus.60340/

Personally, for shops it's Weiland's (they do close a little early) and Palmers, in addition to Savor Growl, as all three are within about a mile on the same road. Bring a growler for some Bodhi, which can be found with relative ease these days and IMHO is the best Ohio beer out there. Don't know where you're staying, but 101 Beer Kitchen in Dublin is good for both food and beer, but might be far.

I will be getting to Columbus on Thursday, but OSU has a dinner planned already. I may just stop down there after the dinner if it isn't too late.

    Thanks for the heads up!

I'll be toward the UIC area in Chicago and then OSU campus in Columbus. Sorry, should have been more clear.

    Thanks again guys.
