i've never had anything but awesome experiences at binny's at least with regard to the selection and service, though i know not to rely on them for rare special releases because a ton of people do just that and by the time you blink, the entire allotment gets sold through in half an hour at 11am on a thursday. see backwoods bastard.

that said, most of my beer money goes to my local store, vas.

There are 4 Binny's I go to before any place else now. Frequency of course is based off distance. Plainfield (Eric is the man), Naperville, Orland Park, and Castle Vav (regular stock of sours and my pipeworks/half acre fix! Also, insane selection ALL THE TIME) I have great things to say about all 4 of those.

    False dilemma.

Perhaps you don't understand how this "retail" thing works...
I like money. So, I like paying MSRP.
Fuck, I've been using my phone instead of my car to hunt these down. I've been doing it all wrong!
Yeah, brewers hate when they sell all their product.
Wait, I thought I was supposed to sit around with bros and drink it? Fuck, I'm doing it wrong again.
Yeah, I'm really sick of all those ads for Cantillon. I'd rather they just quietly announced that shit over Twitter or something.
Man, I'm so glad we said that! We did say that, didn't we?
Hey, I live in Fantasy Land too! That's why I ride a T-Rex to work every morning.
coolstorybro. I love stores that don't make money. Means more vacant storefronts, which is good for the economy.

First off, in regards to your last sentence, I have my own business. And it makes money.

Also, your large paragraph is mostly irrelevant to what I said, I never said you cant find a good price on beer at Binnys, I'll never disagree, Binnys will always have the best average price.

    Chasing trucks???
Umm yea, thats exactly why I dont like Binnys....
When we know where a LARGE allotment is going, storms of people will go...
Leave it up to the true BA's to seek and share their "hole-in-the-wall" bottle shops.
People will never have to chase a truck to their mom and pop bottle shops, because A: no single one is getting a uneven amount more than another store and B: there are many mom and pop bottle shops around that will get it, some that many people might not even know about.

These mom and pop bottle shops WILL put out WHALES on shelves and they will sit their for years to allow those of us who truly seek and want the whales to buy them.

And yes, not every business owner gets up every morning to make money.

Also, "its just beer" and I'm still new??? LOL
Everything in life can be justified to be meaningless if you want it to. Including life itself.

You don't get it. I already attempted explaining it to you. Anymore would just become the definition of insanity.

Honestly it sounds like PlayaPlaya got burned on some release of something at Binnys and has therefore made it his life goal to dissuade everyone from shopping there. Most of the points in his argument are vastly blown out of proportion and to be honest, are 100x worse at "mom and pop stores." Specifically

"Binnys only to get sold to either inside connections or a few people who buy the whole allotment???"

Um, yeah right dude. Mom and pop stores are built upon inside connections. Just today I go in, ask about backwoods bastard only to get "Nope, don't know anything about that" to only see another person walk in and ask for his share from the back. The great local business didn't even have the decency to be straightforward and say he has it but it has been spoken for. I'm sorry man, but you need to get over it.

Binnys has done nothing but amazing things for the craft beer industry, it has provided a great location to find so many great beers in one location at extremely competitive prices, and not resort to shady tactics like oh so many stores. (Cough old store that rhymes with Arm Pit Eddy)

if you can get out to northbrook...the store is right off the metra station...hit up otis and lee liquors. their back room is composed entirely of microbrews including many locals from chicago and the midwest. their beer guy is very knowledgeable and keeps up to date with limited editions from the local breweries.

    Call me insane.
    Call me stupid.
Call me a newbie who doesnt really know much about beer....

All I know is...tonight or anytime in the next couple years, I can drive 8 miles down to a bottle shop that is owned by a family of 5(2nd generation to run it)......They have unopened cases of Fruet, Cantillon, CBS among many other rarities that theyve probly even forgot about.
Meanwhile, have fun going down to your "local" Binny's and try doing that.

I dont have to compete with hoards of you, because I go to my local bottle shops.

And whats local?? Well who owns Binnys??
Who owns the mom and pop bottle shop on the corner?? The guy I go to church with, or the family that also volunteers at the local homeless shelter.
Meanwhile, youre supporting the CEO of Binnys who probably has more bank accounts than you can count.
Not against money, but support the small guy whenever possible.

    Backwoods Bastard???

Yea, still sitting on the shelf of every local bottle shop in my town.. 6 shops to be exact. Right along side Harvest Ale and Breakfast Stout. All marked at MSRP. I could buy a couple cases of each if I want.
Meanwhile, I've seen countless posts about people searching/begging Binnys for even a single 4 pack.

Well, you should be quite happy then to know a spot that still has CBS and Cantillon in the back. Not sure where you live, but my mom and pops don't even know what Cantillon is. You should have a heck of a collection at this point then. My mom and pop shops are fully aware when they get something "of value". It's never on the floor. Usually behind the counter and usually marked up. I believe you've either found a rarity or live in an area devoid of other beer geeks.

Oh fuck, next thing you know he's going to say Rare is still on shelves.

Plus, why would anyone spend so much time driving around to find WHALEZZZZZ when they're all 8 miles away?

Unopened cases of highly desirable product sitting in the backroom in a small Mom & Pop...yeah, that makes sense. I mean M & P shops have soooo much extra money to waste cellar programs. Which, I'm sure they have a cave deep below their store which stays at perfect temp and humidity year round.
