Is New Glarus' tours worth the drive? Is Northdown Taproom as good as it looks on the website? What is your favorite place to pick up singles of beer? Fischmans, Archers, or Capone's or other? thanks j
The $20.00 tour is very informative, the down side of it is the beer tasting at the end is out of bottles they select poured into tasting glasses. When I went it was six different beers and there were twenty people on the tour. The cheese and crackers they serve with the tasting were stale, but I wasn't there for that. You must make reservations for the tour and they are only on Fridays. I looked on there web page and June and July are booked.
I just visited Northdown for the first time on Saturday. Both beers we had were great, the place wasn't too crowded, the staff was friendly, but we were there after the kitchen closed, so they could only offer us pie (Which we ate, because barleywine and strawberry rhubarb pie? Hell yes.) Do I think they had the most interesting or rare beers in the city? No. But if you need a 3Floyds fix, they can help with the regulars. As for singles, I also just made it down to Maria's Packaged goods in Bridgeport. Very friendly owner, found a ton of Pipeworks, and they have an excellent tap list!
For singles, there are a couple of Lush locations here in the city that could be a nice alternative to Maria's. I frequent the location on 1412 West Chicago Avenue, but there are 2 other locations that may work better for you. Pretty decent singles selection.
