I would check Half Acre's taplist before deciding whether or not to go (sometimes they don't have much on tap that doesn't also get distributed). With that being said, I think HA is an excellent option because you can have a beer or three there, hop across the street to Bad Apple (great beer list, and their burger is more my style than Kuma's), and then head a block or two down Lincoln and grab some beer at Bottles and Cans.

Question on Piece. Do they do growler fills?

I'm going to be in Chicago next week. Anyone know a good (fair-priced) place for styro shippers or pulp 12oz bottle shippers? I'm sure I'll pick up a bunch while I'm there and may head to 3Floyd's for a 12-pack of ZD to check on the flight back.

I also want to know of a place that sells bottle shippers, but preferably used. Last time I took a trip to Portland, there was a wine storage facility that had used 12 bottle shippers available for $5 each. Ideally, I'd like something along those lines. Maybe Domaine?

Just bumping this as I'm leaving for Chicago tomorrow and I know some of you are holding the "secrets of the affordable shippers." When I asked this question to Portland they answered in minutes. Don't think that I'm trying to say that Portland is better.

    Portland is better. :grinning:

Maybe the issue here in Chicago is that we're all too busy drinking our beer (okay, or hoarding it) to ship it.

I'd give you an answer if I knew, but I don't ship beer.

I don't know of where to get them either. Part of the reason you may find them easily in Portland is due to wine country. People go out there to visit wineries and buy a bunch of bottles then need to ship them home or check them as luggage on the plane. I know I did this years ago when I was out there. I hardly ever ship enough beer to go in a 12 bottle shipper (actually I never have), but if I need a 4 or 6 bottle version, I just use one of my own from wine shipments I get.

You might want to try calling stores like The Beer Temple or West Lakeview Liquors, as they ship beers to folks from their webshops, so they may utilize them and perhaps you can get something from them. I have also heard a rumor in the past that certain U-Haul locations will have them - there is one at Fullerton & Racine that may have them. I have no idea what the cost would be, so prepare for potential Chicago inflation.

It's my last night in Chicago. Heading back to SNA tomorrow. Once again my carry-on bag is loaded with a case of cans/bottles including a sixer of ZD. A Big Shout out & Thanks to @croush for hooking me up with ZD.
No shippers used here. Just bubble wrap/tape/zip lock bags and cloths to protect the goodies. Good enough for the beers, good enough for me.

    Cheers....
