My nephew is in Chicago for work and is returning coming home this weekend to go to a concert that I was nice enought to hook him up with tickets for. He doesn't know it yet but he's bringing back some regional beers as a thank you. Any suggestions on reasonably available local IPA's and barrel aged stouts/porters?
Crystal Hero or Dos Osos from Revolution (~$8/22oz. bomber). He might find their Mean Gene (barrel-aged porter @ ~$12) or Very Mad Cow (barrel-aged milk stout @ ~$14), too. Three Floyds' English IPA, Blackheart ($12/bomber) just came out, too. Pipeworks released a new batch of Ninja vs. Unicorn recently, too (another bomber). Also, the OP may want to have this moved to the Great Lakes forum.
Not sure where you find that, I've never seen it cheaper then $18. Paid $20 for it before. Zombie Dust is very difficult to find in chicago, you'd have to go to the FFF brewpub in Indiana for that. BA Dark Lord? you're kidding right?
I was thinking of the brewery-release prices (and even then I was off by a dollar -- brain fart!). You're right - retail stores will have it listed in the $18-20 range.
Binnys South Loop seems to get a regular flow if ZD. Have him check that out. I buy A case there when they have it ( saves the drive to Munster- although well worth the visit)
Dark Lord and any variants are only sold at FFF on Dark Lord Day. Fischman's Liquors had Some Ninja and Revolution Galaxy Hero as well as BA variants of Pipeworks Smoked Porter.
True. I actually picked up a bomber of each of these on Saturday. They had at least 4 more Pipeworks and 3 Galaxy (this was in the fridge up front) as of Saturday afternoon. I spoke with the manager and they were expecting a new shipment from various breweries today (Wednsday.).
