I'm guessing there is a differentiation between bars & restaurants, but a lot of restaurants that also have their own liquor license will allow you to bring your own wine and charge you a corkage fee. Not that I'd want to do that for a beer offline, but just wanted to point out that you can bring alcohol of your own to drink to a place that does sell alcohol.

Normally this would be the idea I'd bring up, however, they just added a no outside alcoholic beverage sign. I think it would come down to renting out the backspace. I could check and see costs.

But if anyone is near beermiscuous, I would ask them as well.

I had thought about this as well...but I don't live in a high rise.

BYOB is probably the best way to go. The folks on the wine forums call them "offlines" and there are definitely places willing to host a group for a few hours. It's generally recommended that the group (a) does it on a slower night as opposed to a weekend, and (b) agrees to order a certain amount of food, maybe an entree and app per person. Someone would have to take the reins in terms of contacting the restaurant and scheduling it, but it should definitely be doable. I'm totally interested in something like that, although I'm seriously lacking in the whalez department.

Honestly, I've found that the more whales you drink at once, the happier you are for something non-whalish (like a decent sour, a good IPA, etc.). There's only so many adjunct stouts you can drink without your palate giving up on you and saying "fuck it man, they're all great, okay? Give me some water!"

Bottle shares to me are cool with a few non whalez. Maybe a few out of distro shelfies. A bottle share is better when there is no pressure to bring in the rarest whale.

If you go to a larger bio place on a Saturday afternoon between 1-5 or so, you should be fine. Especially with a little heads up given to the restaurant.

I'll look into putting something together.

Maybe we could rent a couple hours a month at Aquanaut.

I was kind of kidding by using Aquanaut, but I do know of a homebrew club that would meet and share at Ale Syndicate. So a brewery may not be a bad place to inquire.

I was only saying a good idea because Transiet used it to throw bottle share parties for their members.

I've also wondered about art collectives. I've seen enough shitty bands at a few that it can't cost that much to rent a couple hours a month.

I'd be afraid of being dragged into a lawsuit just by association...

I think it's a bit early for that. I think we first need to scout some viable venues for it. It looks like @prior2two is going to look into it some, and I will as well. Hopefully we can find a place or two as possibilities and then come back with some ideas.

Yes...that was the intention of this thread. I almost wrote "Chicago (City Proper) Bottle Share" in the title, but opted not to.

It's too bad we couldn't do something like LP Binny's taproom; that would be a perfect location for a number of reasons.
