I'll be in town for just a night and want to pick up some beers. Anybody know the best stores to possibly grab some Zombie Dust or any other Chicago brews worth taking home to KC? Unfortunately, I won't have car, so can't drive out to FFF.
Binny's is always worth checking out. There are several around the city. Zombie is always hard to find just about anywhere. If that's what you're looking for, it's best to ask at the counter first since a lot of times that's where they keep it. Same goes for other FFF bombers. Other Chicago area brewers of note are Pipeworks (pretty common), Revolution (less common) and Half-Acre (not as common). Are you going to be downtown?
I definitely recommend going to a Binnys and grabbing a few Pipeworks, Revolution, and 3F bombers. Pipeworks constantly rotates their offerings so it's hard to give any specific suggestions. Revolution Galaxy Hero is their current seasonal bomber, you may also find some of the Deep Wood Series at smaller stores. 3F bombers aren't necessarily hard to find but are kind of a crap shoot. Spiteful and Half Acre are worth checking out as well. You almost certainly won't find the "rare" releases with one night in town, but there is still plenty of good beer floating around. You might have better luck at small liquor stores close to your hotel, but it'll be a little more pricey and you need to be mindful of bottling dates.
If you can't get it at home and you like IPAs grab some Surly Furious, you'll be lucky to get ZD but you could find FFF bombers of Space Station Middle Finger, Dreadnaught , Arctic Panzer.
Check out DrinkFly. They have an app as well that I used on my iPhone. It's a little pricey, but if you don't have a car, they will deliver the beer to you. I was able to get two 6-packs of Not Your Father's Root Beer at 11 PM the night before I was to leave the city when I was there last weekend since the closest store was 4 miles away (that had it in stock).
I'll be staying in Lincoln Park, but i can get downtown if there are some better places to go down there. I'll definitely check out a few Binny's in the area. Thanks for all the recs so far.
Any other recommendations on can't miss brews? I'm in Chicago for a few days and am hoping to grab some bottles to take back to DC.
