did some searching on the forum first and have come up with a list of places that look to be must hit spots reaching out to the local Illinois ba'ers here to see if this is a decent list of places.

looking for advice on places i should stop at or drop off the list as I'll only have a few days in town.

    Half arces

    Pipeworks Brewing

    Archer Liquors

    The Beer Temple
    Chicago Binny's South Loop
Binny's Beverage Depot - Lincoln Park
    Downtown--Binny's Beverage Depot
    Chicago Hyde Park Binny's Express
Goose Island Clybourn (if they have any of the bcbs variants on tap which
currently does not look like it per the website and beermenus

No reason to goto pipeworks...no tap room.

Binnys LP should cover all the Binnys.

Also add Revolution and Lagunitas to your list of places to hit since I saved you a couple hours not going to all those Binnys.

If you're looking for additional bottle shops, hit Fischman liquors (awesome tap list also) and Bottles and Cans.

Archer Liquors is a great store but is by Midway and out of the way compared to the other places. You'll be ok checking out Binny's LP and Beer Temple.

I love Bad Apple, which is just a block from Half Acre. Great food, and an exceptional beer list. I recommend it highly.

Chicago is pretty spread out. If you tell us where you're staying we can steer you to nearby places...and rob you.

For taverns with food and drinks I agree with Bad Apple as a really good choice, and also suggest Fountainhead. Beer menues will give you an idea what you will find. There are lots of really good local beers you will find at these sort of places like Spitefull, Marz, Solemn Oath, Pipeworks, Ten Ninety, Lake Effect, Half Acre, 3F's, Transient, and more... Also Fishmans liquors is totally in the middle of nowhere but has a phenominal selection. Also like Beer Temple if you are going bottle shopping. oh and of course Maria's package goods if you can find Bridgeport. I was there recently and there were like 20 guys in tuxidos at the bar!

Skip Hyde Park unless you'll actually be in that area for another reason.

I'll be in Chicago this weekend Fri-Sun. Cheers for the list of recommended places! I will be bringing a case, or more, of PseudoSue with me (12oz) and will be trying to hit most of the brewpubs tomorrow (Friday). Cheers!

Paddy Longs. Because bacon and beer go so well together.

GI Clybourn is much more than their BCBS variants, so I'd still recommend checking in there, especially since you'll probably be across the street at Lincoln Park Binny's already. I'd spend an hour or two drinking at both places (Binny's has a great tap room, and you can drink while you shop, if you want).

Also, if you're thinking about going to Half Acre, keep in mind that they don't serve food there, so consider bringing food with. Alternatively, Bad Apple is right across the street, and they've got a great beer list and burgers.

I'd agree, there aren't exactly any destination breweries or brewpub places, though a few places like Binny's Express and Kimbark Beverage Shop do have some selection, along with a few bars like Promontory. You can get better selection outside of Hyde Park, though. Not that there's anything wrong with doing a quick check of stores down there, if you have extra time.

Still have never made it to Local Option, it's one of the few places I still haven't made it to. :slight_frown: I'd like to finally get there, one of these days. Have found their beers at some stores, though.

Finally for everyone mentioning Half Acre, don't forget to check out Bottles and Cans a few blocks south on Lincoln. Great mom and pop beer and wine store, and they often have samples on certain days of the week in the afternoon.

    Just got back from Chicago last night after a week of work at the McCormick Place. My after work spots;
Binny's South Loop - My stash to bring home
Goose Island Clyborn - Monday's 50% off apps and $4 pints were great
Revolution - Was here before, and still a solid spot.
Kuma Too - Went on a suggestion and the tap list rocked. Plus the burgers are killer.

Looks good where you hit, but I personally also would've checked the Binny's flagship store out besides going to the GI Clybourn brewpub. Wanted to go to that GI brewpub last time in the area, but I forgot they were closed due to the fact it was Easter. :slight_frown:

I suggest taking off Binny's South Loop and adding West Lakeview Liqours. The Loop and lincoln park binnys will have you covered on what Binny's south loop has. WLV is a 10 min or so drive from Beer Temple and has a very unique selection compared to any other place on your list.
