Hello, I am visiting this weekend for the race in Joliet. I am wondering if there are any good bourbon barrel, barley wines or pretty much anything that ages well (or even a cant miss IPA) only available in IL or the area I will be in. I am traveling with a group so probably cant take any detours from our main path, but is there any hidden gems I should be looking for in stores? I am from MN so anything that is widely available I can probably get here. Thanks in advance!
I can't speak for stores outside the city, but you may still find some of the Revolution barrel-aged cans around; they were at the Binny's on Grand in the city a couple days back when I went (Straight Jacket, Deth's Tar and Cafe Deth, I think).
Crystal Lake Brewing Boathouse Reserve Barleywine and Rye Whiskey Barrel Stout are still in some Binny's and other stores. Highly recommend both. +1 for the Rev stuff.
Not sure what will be available, but the place you should look would be Joe's Beverage Warehouse in Joliet. Also looks like there's a Binny's near there as well.
Werk Force is not that far from Joliet, and their website says they still have bottles of BA German Chocolate Sleepy Bear for sale. I thought that was pretty good, although kind of hot right now (probably want to wait a while if you want to taste the adjuncts).
