Chicago Stout Releases (2018)

At least original hasn’t changed in decades. The variants always suck.

 

Anyone heard anything on when Benthic is getting released?

I'd try it on draft first. I drink this beer every year as it's one of my fave non-BA, non-adjunct RIS. However, the last couple of years MZ has been a bit of a letdown.

 

How much can I flip it for, tho

So if you add an adjunct / flavoring to a base Russian Imperial Stout, does it be come an American Imperial Stout?

That does sound great, but being a Bruery beer, I assume it's at least $20 per 16 oz. can.

 

They use to bottle it in June/July then sell it in August. That way when you opened one in the winter it had a few months for the hops to fade a bit and that wonderful dark fruit profile to shine. It has a really thick mouthfeel which is great. Last couple of years its lacked that really dark fruit taste. That thick mouthfeel is still there though. Historically it was released in August so this year with it coming out now it'll be interesting to see when it was bottled and how's its tasting. My personally preference is MZ with between 6 and 12 months on it but it does age gracefully if you decide to hold onto it longer.

 

I felt (the last year or 2) that Darkness had lost a little of its mouthfeel. Darkness has always been my favorite non-BA stout thanks to basically what you mentioned (hops and dark fruit), so maybe I'll check out a fresh bottle, depending on where all my money has gone that week.

 

The price of MZ seems to increase each year as does the amount they make. It's a 22oz. bottle and will probably be in the $16-$18 range. It use to be a 750ml for $12-$13 up until 2013 or 2014. Given the other stouts being released this time of year plus the shear volume of MZ that will make it here I'd expect this to be available for awhile. Similar to the other CCB offerings that have debuted here this year.

 

Sounds good, but how do you know it's hitting Chicago? The link lists Cali and "a few East coast states".
