I found a bunch of 2016 GI BCBS at a local shop. They have the entire allotment, including prop. It seems fishy to me though but would you take a chance and buy some?

Apparently they have a lot of it...regular, coffee, barleywine, and prop. He offered a discount on 8+ bottles mix and match.

What do I do?

 

First you should tell everyone what shop it is... and yes I'd buy it.

 

Probably hasn't been stored ideally, but aside from that I can't see the harm (if the price is right).

 

There's a store by me (Hoffman Estates/Elgin border) that still has regular BCBS but for $25 a bottle, haven't moved one bottle in months, I've told the guy he needs to lower the price, but what do I know...

Pollyanna in Lemont is releasing their Bourbon Barrel Aged Personal Chain Letter (BBA Impy Stout) and Toasted Marshmallow Fun Size Milk Stout as part of their third anniversary party. These guys make great stuff so I assume both of these will be fantastic (regular PCL is great). And if you need more of a reason to go visit, they also released this video. It's FANTASTIC.

I really enjoyed BBA PCL last year. Hoping for the same this year

 

Agreed BBA PCL was in a lineup of BA beers tasting and it stood out and was very memorable. Doubt I can make it out to for the anniversary release but hoping for some distro.

 

Are you 100% sure they are the 2016 vintage? I've seen plenty of shady places try to pass off 2015 as 2016.

 

...or just don't state the vintage at all & hope you buy their infected stock.

Short version: They have Barleywine ($12.99), Prop ($69.99), and Rare.

Story: went last week, saw prop and Barleywine. Guy told me they have full allotment in the back and he could sell to me this week when his manager was in. Went today, didn't remember me, andreminded him of last week. He went to the back and came out to tell me he only had the above.

We're celebrating our 3rd anniversary with a triple bottle release. The fun starts at 12pm with all sorts of special tappings throughout the day. Live music and food from Döner Men starts at 12pm as well.

That Barleywine must be 2015, they were selling 2016 for $40 or $50 a bottle after Black Friday. They would sell Rare for $225 and say "People are willing to pay it." A year l ater I questioned how well they were moving if they still had them sitting on the shelf at that price with Binny's selling them for $69.99. 2013 they cared about their customers, but after blowing through their BCBS allocation they learned that BCBS was gold and priced stuff insanely high....

 

Everything about that video is representative of what I think of when I hear "malt liquor". I will get some anyway. But I do love that it comes in a paper bag.

 

Good question. Yes it is different I believe. Original is this beer which is sold in the UK today. It was first brought over here as part of their Brewers Project last year I think. According to the label, it's "inspired by Arthur Guinness's original stout recipe".
