Welcome all stout seekers in the Chicagoland area! Here you will find the greatest tales of stout releases, nay the greatest thread on all of beeradvocate!

    Here is the 2021 thread
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/chicago-stout-releases-2021.653102/

To get us started in this new year I wanted to lift up Brothership BA space debris. Had my first from them this week (coconut) and was really impressed. Will be keeping a closer eye on this newer brewery from now on

Those Might Meets Right mixed 4pks of 12oz cans from Temperance are getting around finally - good BA stouts, great value.
The Significant mixed 4pks of 12oz cans from BuckleDown have been out for awhile too.

Maplewood's Cuppacino is back at Bottles & Cans (at least the Lincoln Ave location).

Not a new batch, as they are dated from October. There was quite a bit available on Saturday.

Cruz Blanca is re-releasing their 2021 Luchador lineup if you missed out on any or want more. They have Rey Cuvee and Barbarosa up again.

A word of advice if you do pick up some Temperance: drink them early! I'm doing Dry January now so I wanted to tick each of last year's variants before the new year and somehow each of them ended up having this weird, funky, semi-infected taste to it. When they were fresh, they drank fine, but if I ever get another pack from them, I definitely am finishing them by summer.

FWIW, I purchased a mixed pack last week and have gone through 3 of the 4 (haven't tried the High West yet). I haven't noticed any off flavors with mine, outside of the fact that I haven't been impressed with the variants this year (Praline and Orange Chocolate). They just came off as too artificial to me.

For you pastry stout fans, Saint Errant has a new one out this week called Crème La Vie, a RIS with coconut, vanilla and cinnamon. They name check Sina and the Eel in the description as what they were going for in terms of coconut profile, which was one of the best local non-BA stouts from 2021. Sina had exactly the sort of coconut overload I was looking for, so I have similarly high expectations for this one.

Brickstone Dark Secret Fifteen Vanilla (a collaboration with Binny's, aged in Wild Turkey & Russell's Reserve barrels) is pretty damn good.

It's got a velvet-y mouthfeel & nice vanilla notes. It's like a lot like Vanilla Deth, in my opinion, but more vanilla forward and less barrel forward.

    Worth copping, methinks!

Dark Secret is an underrated BA stout - they do a really nice job with it and that one was no exception.

...to be perfectly honest, the list wouldn't get me out of the house on a random Wednesday, never mind on "the big game".

This was more of a public service announcement.

I saw bottles of Abraxas sitting on the shelf at Whole Foods, on sale for $14.99 each. Oh what a world we live in!

By the way, when is Abraxas going to finally be canned? They moved Sump to cans, I was assuming Abraxas would follow. I think mixed 4 packs of Abraxas + variants would be a pretty good time.

May I ask which Whole Foods? The one I frequent doesn’t have it.

How about some Irish Dry Stout love? Anyone got a chicagoland favorite? I enjoyed P3's the Claddagh last year and was going to try more this year for St. Patricks. Sláinte!
