Chicago Stout Releases (2022)

Hubbard’s Cave, the stout and hazy aka of Une Annee. Hubbard’s Cave typically pushes the diabetes quotient on all of their stouts.

 

That's a relief. I'd never put crazy ideas past brewers these days and was really hoping there wasn't such a thing as a Hep C BA stout.

 

One of my favorite BA Stouts returns tomorrow per The Beeronaut.

 

This beer tastes like a Somoa cookie dipped in sunscreen lotion.

Pretty much undrinkable cool, in my opinion, and I won't be sticking around to see what it's like at room temperature.

EDIT: I SWEAR I smell Tugboat's rancid coffee, although it's not even remotely present in the taste.

Either that, or they got ahold of a rotten batch of Dark Matter.

So, in the parlance of Untappd...awful, gross, undrinkable. 4.25 / 5.

I ended up stopping by for a pour. Really didn’t care for it. Not a whole lot of distinct flavors to it.

Beer on the wall has fundamental observation. Not sure what other places in area received that one

RE: "Traditional" Dragon's Milk...barrel "aging" for 3 months is just wild to me.

 

It isn’t JUST 3 months. They reuse the barrels. So it is 3 months in, basically, old worn out used oak.

 

Drago is underrated imo. Enjoyed it on tap at the Wild Onion Tide House in Oak Park. Wish that place was still open.

 

Details for the luchador beers are up on instagram. Six different offerings this year, five BA stouts and an imperial pineapple ale (?). Looks like they are switching to 12 ounce cans too. I’m excited for vanilla Rey Cuvee and the return of Tarzan Boy.

 

I've tried some of Lo Rez's regular brews and wasn't that impressed. But I sampled a couple of their BA brews at the Oak Park Microbrew review this past August and was pleasantly surprised.
