It's getting harder to keep up with what's up and running, even if you narrow your focus - like just the "north shore". The other day I drove past "Buffalo Grove's Own Brewery" called Prairie Krafts (I'd never heard of it). Ten-Ninety has moved from brewery in Zion to taproom in Glenview. Ravinia Brewing continues to threaten to open in Highland Park. Sketchbook in Evanston has moved into a site more taphouse and less growler-fill. Breakroom on the north side is now Finch. Half-Day is now brewing its own in the old Flatlander space.

How do we keep up? Even some of the beer-mapping sites can't keep up.

Is the better question: Do we even try to keep up?

I love trying new and different things, beer included. But how much effort does one expend chasing every opening, when there are so many proven brewers doing great work and needing our support already.

I fully intended this post to be little more than a query as to whether Prairie Krafts was any good - but I just started to realize that the bigger question needed to be asked.

    Just wondering.

Eventually your desire to chase will die down. You'll go back to drinking the readily available goodies unless it is for something that you really want to track down.

There will always be another brewery to visit. Enjoy the finding, not the chasing.

Oh, and Black Horizon Brewing is building out it's space in Willowbrook now after a well accepted offering at CCBF BUG.

I think it's great that there is more and more stuff popping up in the suburbs. As someone who can rarely make it to the city (especially now that I have a 6-week old), it's nice to have some options near me. I haven't been to Prarie Krafts yet but keep meaning to seeing I work only 5 min away. I do frequent Half Day somewhat regularly though and quite like it.

I don't think it's that hard to keep up. There aren't as many as the number in the city. Give them all a try and then you can narrow your search or the ones you need to keep up with
