    Hey guys,

I am planning a road trip from Chicago to Toppling Goliath and am trying to do some research on the trip. I know it's about a five hour drive and wanted to seek some advice from people who have made the trek before.

Is there a best route to take? Are there any other breweries along the way that are worth hitting up? Where are some of the better places to eat and stay in Decorah? If anybody has got information on how I can maximize this trip, I would be extremely grateful.

    Thank you,
    Nick

Surly is up in Minnesota. Make a triangle route. I am actually planning on doing this at some point this year.

You could definitely make a route to Decorah that takes your through New Glarus on the way. If not, you will likely pass just south of Madison. You could take a short pitstop and hit one of the breweries there (Ale Asylum, Karben4) or you can continue through Verona which has Wisconsin Brewing.

SW Wisconsin is a great drive, especially the drive to New Glarus. A real scenic/hilly/european vibe to it.

This is actually a pretty good idea. I've been to NG a few times but the buddy I'm traveling with hasn't. I forgot that there are also some good breweries near Madison as well and that is definitely an idea too.

    Thanks for the input!

New Glarus is a solid side trip on the way up. If you can and interests you, drive home by taking the Great River Road south to Dubuque. It's a beautiful drive. You have the Mississippi on one side, and the bluffs on the other. And there's a decent brewery / museum in Potosi which can be a place to grab lunch on the way home.

Is this why you emptied the cellar so that you could fill it back up again?

First, I'm still in the process of emptying said cellar. It's gonna be a long process. Would have been a bit faster had you been there last week :stuck_out_tongue:

Second, I'm just going for the experience, don't plan on bringing much back with me:wink:

Not sure if they've grown any since I was there ~2 years ago but it's crazy how small TG is and how it's just in the middle of nowhere

Few days late but I would stay at hotel winishek (not sure on spelling there...) it is right in downtown decorah and only a mile from TG. Only place I ate when I was there was Mabes pizza downtown. Awesome thin crust and they have bottles of TG beers almost at all times. Enjoy it, I love TG's taproom.

When I went there a few months ago, I drove right by the place without realizing it. Even after I parked in their lot, I still wasn't sure I was at the right place until I walked in.
