going. to Chicago for New Year's Eve. Haven't been in a couple years. Any new or good breweries to hit up. Will be staying in Lincoln Park.
Local Option is the best beer bar in Lincoln Park. Hopcat just opened up but haven't been yet. Also you have Sheffield's in Lakeview. A sneakingly good bar with a good list and good food is Lincoln Station. Anywhere you go that weekend will be slammed, fyi. Especially in Lincoln Park/Lakeview.
Will only be going out during the day so hopefully the crowds won't be as bad. Always enjoyed local option.
If you're in LP, I'd also definitely hit up Goose Island's brewpub if you have time. This time of year is really when they bring their A-game, in my opinion; they almost always have something BA on tap, and around Christmas and NYE will usually have some of their big guns flowing. Plus you should be going to Binny's across the street for take-home beer anyway.
Thanks for the help. Anything new. Have been to goose island, Binny, half acre, revolution, and others. Anything open up in the past two years that's a good stop.
There's not a whole lot that's new/good in that area; @Socalfan21 mentioned Hopcat, which you might want to try, but my worry for that weekend would be that especially Clark will be a mess no matter when you're there. If you just want to try new places and can move around a little, you can hit up the Goose Island taproom on Fulton (again, you'll get some great BA stuff most likely), Old Irving up on Montrose, and the Begyle taproom on Ravenswood/Cuyler. Other than that, Bitter Pops on Lincoln is a cool new beer shop/taproom (great pricing on their on-tap beers), and Beermiscuous (also further down Lincoln) is pretty cool too (and across the street from Gino's!).
I believe Dovetail is new (just a couple streets north of Begyle and/or a half mile south of Half Acre), or it was just new to me for my October trip. They do traditional German/Eastern Europe styles, so no hazy NE IPAs or BBA stouts, but something to try.
If you hit up Bitter Pops, which I highly suggest you do, head about a mile west to Roscoe Village and stop by Riverview Tavern and Village Tap. Both have solid food and even better draft lists. And it won't be quite as crowded as the Lincoln Park bars will be.
Or walk a few blocks east to Southport lanes. Decent pub food and pretty good rotating 32+ taps. I believe Riverview used to be part of spare time group as Spl is so many similarities.
Yeah, definitely agree on both. Four Moon Tavern isn't bad either, as they frequently have decent tap takeovers (recently had HA's Double Daisy Cutter and Benthic on tap).
Dovetail, Forbidden Root, Moody Tongue, Begyle, Band of Bohemia (just got a Michelin Star). Haymarket and Piece are older, but those are both must visits IMO.
Only reason I didn't mention it is that dude wanted things that had opened within the last 2 years. Agree though, love Haymarket. Agreed here. Haven't been to any of the new places (really have been meaning to hit Moody), but I'd definitely check out Begyle, Moody and maybe Forbidden Root from what I've heard. I'm not as down with BoB's concept, but it sounds like they've got a great thing going.
I'll be in Chicago tonight staying downtown. Any family friendly dinner spots with solid tap list? Thanks for any and all help!
