Chicago Zwanze Day 2016

Cantillon just posted the 2016 locations on their Facebook page. Looks like West Lakeview Liquors will be hosting again this year.

 

How difficult is it to get tickets to these events?

 

I'm wondering the same thing. Also, if anyone's been to this event in the past, are there to-go bottle sales, as well?

 

The Zwanze beer is tap only, no bottle sales, that's the reason for the party. It is tapped worldwide at the same time.

 

There are definitely Untappd check-ins with pics of Zwanze bottles from previous years, so it doesn't seem like it's tap only. Although, it may be for the purposes of this release party...

 

2011 and after, no bottles outside of the brewery.

"So to recap, there will not be any bottles of Zwanze put on sale so as to avoid any overpricing. On top of this, contrary to what was done with the Zwanze in previous years (with 80% of the production going into bottles), 2/3 of the Zwanze production for 2011 has been put into barrels. The goal here is to try to make certain that Cantillon enthusiasts everywhere will have a chance to taste the beer while short-circuiting those whose just want to make a fast buck.

In order to create an ephemeral event for this ephemeral beer, I decided to have all these barrels opened and enjoyed on the same day, when possible at the same time, by our friends throughout the world in places like Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, the United States, Japan, Canada, France and Belgium."

Looks like someone was lazy and just hit copy/paste on last year's info.

 

I wish they'd have the Chicago one somewhere else. I get that Jean and Kristina are friends, but the venue leaves a lot to desired and I'm not alone when I say that she's someone I'd prefer to not support let alone be around.

The party was great last year (unlimited pours of everything except Zwanze plus included all-you-can-eat food), but the handling of the ticket sales was abysmal (classic website crash, and, in true WLV fashion, absolutely no semblance of customer service or even an indication that she cared about people that got screwed over). This is all not to mention how she treats customers and employees. I'll be trying to go to either Jolly Pumpkin, Side Project Cellar, or Schera's this year.

 

I can't be the only that doesn't think the beer is very good.

 

It's always a great party.The main beef I had last year is that half of the tickets were sold privately to all the cool kids. And I'm just not that cool.

 

You realize Zwanze is a different beer every year, right? Or do you mean Cantillon in general?

 

I thought you meant ME, then looked back at the site and realized its literally just a copy paste.

Yeah, not your fault, they half-assed it.

 

No, I love Cantillon. It's just that, compared to the hype, I just haven't been impressed with the last 3 years' worth.

But it's a cool event nonetheless.

 

Yeah, I think most people would tell you they feel that Zwanze is much more about the event and global camaraderie than it is about the Zwanze beer itself.

 

Zwanze is usually the worst Cantillon beer pouring anyway.
