Hi Everyone, I am flying into Chicago in a couple weeks, and before I arrive at my final destination I am looking for bottle shop recommendations in Chicago. Also, what are some of the newest releases out on the shelves? Cheers! -Pat
Stole these from another thread: http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/west-of-chicago.253786/ http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/chicago-brew-pub-advice.249291/ http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/weekend-in-milwaukee-and-chicago.245681/ http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/chicago-peoples-help-out-a-bears-fan.260071/ There have been a LOT of discussions on the matter, so I'd take a look at the above. In terms of new releases, Abrasive just dropped this past week, and Pipeworks just shipped a bunch of BA bottles you might want to keep an eye out for.
Where are you staying? There are a ton of great bottle shops in different neighborhoods (and the burbs). @SeanBond beat me to it, I was gonna say look out for Pipeworks. If you look in the right places, you may find some 3 Floyds bombers too
Ultimately I am going to Indiana and will be stopping at 3 Floyds. It's conveniently on my way to my work function. I am looking for Pipeworks. Is there anything else I should look out for?
Look for stuff from Spiteful, specifically their IPA in cans, it's wonderful. You may be able to find some Dark Horse Plead the 5th, Marz Duchess De Bridgeport, Lake Effect Vielle Blonde, Central Waters Space Ghost, Surly Abrasive.. Those are some of the more recent limited releases, most will likely be difficult to find, but worth grabbing if you see them.
Thanks for all the advice. I found out I am arriving late morning Sunday 3/8 at Chicago Midway. The plan is stop at 1 or 2 bottle shops in Chicago, head to 3 Floyds and get food there, and then head over to 18th Street Brewing before I stop in Portage for the night.
Has anyone been to the Whole Foods on Columbus and Illinois? I am reading some good reviews for that too. I am thinking I will check out Binny's and the Whole Foods before I leave Chicago.
All the Whole Foods are worth hitting, just be warned that the River North WF's is overpriced. If you're near the Streeterville ("Illinois & Columbus") Whole Foods make sure you hit Uncork it!, too.
