    Ouch!

The weird part is that if you looked at IWTB on Untappd, some people's pours do look at least somewhat hazy (not like orange juice, though).
Yeah, I believe a lot of these pics are from before the beer is being canned, so the final product looks much different.

Just chiming in that I too loved Funny Gummy. Looking forward to the new one they are releasing this week.

I never have bought into the hype of Hop Butcher. Wasn't overly impressed with anything I've had from them. Is it misleading that they post photos of the beer that look nothing like the canned product? Is it an honest mistake or is it plain old shady? I'll give them the benefit of a doubt on this but makes me think Everytime I see a photo from them. Shaun Berns brews always look the the Instagram photos and taste damn delicious

It's shady. They've been called out for it a few times already on social media. I didn't get any Moon boys but I was able to grab a 4-pack of I Want To Believe. Its alright, its not bad, but I don't think I'd buy it again.

Well I definitely won't be seeking anything out from them again now. Don't want to support a place thats openly misleading people. Forget that noise. It's Chicago, there will be plenty of others to take my place in supporting them

I suppose it can be seen as shady from a certain viewpoint, but they're not the only ones who do it. I don't remember where in the brewing process this happens, but I've seen other breweries post similar pics...maybe before being transferred to the brite tank? I'm not sure (even Mikerphone does this, I think).

I still think HB's original batch of GB has been about as good as anything else in the city, but there has been some real weird variance in their beers since then.

I would agree with the first batch of GB..i thought it was a damn fine offering. Since then, though? Meh.

I had no plans to grab their more recent stuff, but I can't pass up an X-Files reference! It's a tasty beer, too, just absolutely not what it purports to be.

I'd like to ask them what the hell is going on with it, but I'm afraid they'll take my question the wrong way, since I'd imagine they'll probably be dealing with angry beer nerds asking the same thing.

Even Pipeworks did it with Double Creature Feature. Granted the article did state that the beer pictured isn't the finished product - but what's the point of posting a picture of it before it's done?

I get marketing and stuff but places don't need to be misleading people.Mikerphone doesn't need to post misleading photos, their product speaks for itself. Hop Butcher doesn't need to do it either..Make a great product and Chicago beer nerds will buy it up. If you're going to claim it's a NE style IPA...Then make it look like one. Plain and simple

THAT was the one I was thinking of, thanks.
That's the weird part, though. They've done that with, what, 4 beers in a row (GB1, Mellotron, GB2, Reply Hazy)? And out of the blue, their 5th attempt looks/feels/tastes completely different? It's just bizarre.

Had another can of I Want to Believe tonight, still not an NE IPA in my mind. The only thing I'll say in HB's defense is that the beer does remind me a little bit of the Alchemist's stuff (combination of hop profile and the feel of the beer), so if they're taking NE more literally (as in, Vermont is in New England), I can see it. If they mean that it's a Trillium/Treehouse style beer, hell nah.

I think it's a very tasty beer if you go in explicitly NOT expecting an NE IPA. Expectations are definitely this beer's worst enemy.

Lol, you guys were saying that all anyone has to do to move a bunch of beer is put "NE style" on it. No one talked about the back lash of it not actually being NE style. That being said, the beer is appropriately named " I Want to Believe" (this is NE style).

That's a decent point, although based on Untappd, it doesn't seem like they're getting too much backlash.

Do you guys remember when mikerphone put New England style IPA on their first batch of special sauce? In my opinion it took mikerphone beer from resting on shelves to never making it to shelves. Mike makes really good brews, but I believe that beer catapulted him forward (of course along with bean spirit)

So of course it makes sense that other breweries will go after the moniker of New England style IPA. I just read that Hop Butcher is almost two years old, I feel like I just heard of them from galaxy bowl. It's probabaly my fault for not knowing about them sooner, but nothing pushed them out into popularity faster than NE IPAs. I would expect any new brewery struggling to use that description on any of their beer to start selling it faster.

Mikerphone doesn't have a tasting room, correct? If not, where is the best place to have their beers in downtown Chicago?

Do we remember! Hell yeah, that was the first NE-style beer I had, and one of the first in Chicago, to my knowledge. But yeah, "NE IPA" is a gold mine right now.

They're still putting the finishing touches on their place in Elk Grove. In terms of where to have their beers...Nowhere right now, really. They haven't brewed anything recently (to my knowledge), and there is rarely anything from Mikerphone on tap anywhere.
