I picked up two and haven't opened either yet, but will absolutely be holding onto one for at least two weeks. I got a few crowlers of Funny Gummy when it was first brought out and one I drank 16 days after it was canned, just as good if not better than straight from the tap. Those crowlers hold up well.

I had this exact same reaction to Vortex when I tried it on tap today. I preferred Funny Gummy slightly because it felt like Vortex had a little of that harshness that needed a few days to mellow out. I got a crowler of each and am gonna drink the Funny Gummy ASAP and give the Vortex a week or so.

Haven't had the gummy vortex yet, but really excited to see the good reviews thus far. The funny thing is I heard this beer isn't even exactly what they wanted and it's going to get better after they get past a small issue they had brewery this current batch. Should be even softer/juicier in the future.

Either way, seems the cat is out of the bag with noon whistle. They are making solid beer all around. I'm glad they've decided to play around with some "sexier" styles so people would take notice.

Also, this 30 day old maplewood is still beautifully hazy and easily crushable. Not an ounce of sediment. Looks brand new.

I suppose others are looking for more mouthfeel, but if you are looking for a APA with low bitterness and soft mouthfeel, The Charleton should be sought after.

Stopped into Noon Whistle today. Really is passable if you don't keep an eye out. Tucked away in a strip mall. Real nice, quaint taproom though. When I walked in at 2pm today there was a small crowd at the bar. Looked like everyone was having either of the two gummy offerings. Got a crowlers each of funny and vortex....interested to see how these two hold up to JIL, and any ram offerings. Those are the gold standard in Chicagoland IMO.......

    Cheers everyone.

I'd love to see 'em all distribute beer into Chicago proper! :grinning:

Ventured into Noon whistle today. From the second I walked in, I loved the place. I had been there before but had been to a ton of other places that same day so it was foggy at best. Had both Funny Gummy and Gummy Vortex. Have to say both neck and neck for me. Gummy was a little harsher on the finish but I couldn't get enough. I think I prefered Slapper to them both but if this is the stuff we can expect coming out of our area, the beer in our area just got better. A little part of me hopes the Noon whistle cat stays in the bag but good for them if it doesn't

Finishing up my crowler of Gummy Vortex as I write this (thanks Sam!)--Definitely one of the better NE options in the area. I'd still say JIL is my #1, but GV makes a strong play for #2 or 3. The only mark I'd give against it is that there's a pretty pronounced bitterness in the finish that's a little off-putting (it reminded me slightly of Malort, for those who have had the classic Chicago shot).

Not trying to take anything away from Gummy with the above, as it's a great beer. The nose is fantastic, the look and feel are on point, and it's an awesome effort from a brewery that hasn't made any noise in Chicago-proper (until now, of course).

So I'm actually going to be in Schaumburg today - I see that Hop Slush is listed on Ram's page under seasonals. Anyone know if crowler fills of this are available?

I know, I know, phone first - but I'd rather rely on strangers on the internet - thanks!

Yeah, I had FG & GV back to back there is definitely a bit of back end bite on GV. Somewhat reminiscent of the Special Sauce with the Nelson Sauvin hop...whichever number that was.

I tried Gummy Vortex last night - very good but I think I like Funny Gummy a little more at this point. I'll try it again soon enough and make a more fair decision after a few samplings .

Now I just need to get to Ram to try some of that as well.

Fairly sure Hop Slush is long gone at this point and those have been replaced by Hops on Hops and now NE Slapper.

But as you said, call ahead if you want to be sure.

Also, they don't have a crowler machine there, so if you wanted anything to go, it would be a growler.

Hoping to get to NW tomorrow. Does anyone have any ideas or speculation that they will still have crowlers of GV and if not will they fill other brewers Howlers/Growlers.

    Cheers

If they made the same amount of Vortex as the last batch of Funny Gummy, then you shouldn't have a problem getting crowlers. Funny Gummy was on tap for weeks. As for the non-NW growler question, I'm not sure

That collaboration would be like the Chicago beer geeks wet NE style dream. Better line up now just in case.

Is Noon Whistle cash only or do they take credit/debit cards?

I'm lined up in Elk Grove, my wife is in Schaumburg. Sent the 2 kids to wait at Noon Whistle. Got it covered as long as they don't ID the 2 & 4 year old.

I've paid with a card there. Its the thing where they swipe your card on an iPad and you sign with your finger.
