While I liked Reply Hazy, it definitely had the Belgiany weirdness that people don't like, so I get that. I'm pretty salty I skipped Destination Moon, since people keep saying good things.

Blazed Orange was okay. Not really NE-style, not super tasty (especially for being my favorite hop!), but fine.

I had a little taste of Telehopic yesterday, and while it still isn't the NE-style that GB was, it seemed tasty enough, so I grabbed a 4-pack and will check it out this weekend.

I think HB does good work; I think the things holding them back currently are:

    1) Lack of consistency (batches drop off too fast, very different look/feel/taste even among similar beers)

    2) Calling so many of their beers NE style, when, even though I understand what they're getting at, most people will consider it a misnomer and feel like they were burned.

For me Galaxy Bowl was amazing, Reply Hazy was all right, but nothing great - too much of that belgian yeast, I personally enjoyed Mellotron although it was not up to the level of Galaxy Bowl, I skipped I want to believe, destination moon, smoke filled room, and blaze orange. I did split a 4-pack of each of the most recent releases with a buddy, so we'll see.

I really liked Your Wish is Granted as well and I drank a ton of Alemerica last summer.

I think you're right with their issues. What I don't understand is why they don't chill with releasing a new beer every month or so - why not hone a beer like galaxy bowl that was excellent and that the majority of people seemed to think was one of the better (at that point) NE style IPAs brewed in Chicago. Dial that in and release it at regular intervals - its not like it wouldn't sell out (likely even better than they are doing now due to the backlash against their beers).

This is exactly what I see as being strange with HB. While I can understand if they want to do more than just Galaxy Bowl, at least settle on 2-4 beers to really work on. Seems like they are up to 8 or so IPA's already, with nearly all of them having mixed results.

HB should make more Galaxy Bowl ASAP. I have not tried it and their other beers have not impressed.

For the first year or two - while they were South Loop - they had a small lineup of beers that they brewed on a rotating schedule with very solid to outstanding results. Its really been since they jumped on this NE style trend that they've been churning out a new beer or two every month.

    Agreed.

From what I've heard, they should be making more Galaxy Bowl relatively soon. Whether it competes with batch 1 is another question!

Well said. I think fewer beers brewed more times would be better. You can tell they're starting to get butchered :wink::confused: on a site like this. Developing consistently strong beers would build hype just as much as releasing a new IPA to tick. I personally loved Galaxy Bowl v1 and Wish is Granted, and then thought Coffee Exposition, Milkstachio and Destination Moon were all very good. I also enjoyed Good Ryes Wear Black as a nice black IPA. I'd buy 4-packs of those beers for a second round, whereas almost everything else I've either tried and won't buy again or passed.

Don't forget Esqueeze Me - Collab with Mikerphone was delicious also! They were going for a NE style on that one.

Leave Get Fresh Flow, Special Sauce and Super Special Sauce to us Midwesterner's!! I've had a good amount of Treehouse and Mikerphone can do it all if not better!

    Agreed.

I want to belive, destination moon, smoke filled room, and the coffee stout were all awesome.
I didnt love Blazed Orange but it was still a very good beer.

I guess at the end of the day I dont really care what the label says as long as the beer is delicious. As long as I know the general idea of what im getting into thats good enough for me on things im just crushing out of the can anyway.

Well said brother. That Coffee Stout is fantastic, spot on. I want to believe and smoked filled room were by far my favorites. Mellotron is great too.

Because their cans sell quick and there is some small hype around them, guys just want to hate. I tried their brews before they had some chatter around them and loved them off the bat.

I was a big fan of reply hazy and galaxy bowl. I feel like their recent offerings have been of a lesser quality (besides the coffee stout). Still good beer though.

I've been able to have pretty much everything brewed by them since Galaxy Bowl Batch 1 other than Reply Hazy Try's Again and have sincerely enjoyed most of the offerings. Was able to pick up Telehopic and Bear to be Honey last night and will try this weekend. The only beer of theirs that I have disliked has been Blazin Orange which I thought had this metallic taste to it and never settled over a couple of weeks. Ended up buying a second pack of Smoke Filled Roll which I thought was fantastic. Just my $0.02. I would definitely like them to focus on some core beers though and hopefully that comes soon and maybe with their own place but that remains to be seen.

Granted it wasn't in their "NE" style, I forgot about Hoppy Days, which was a solid offering as well. Not sure if anyone else could speak to this, but while the first batch of Galaxy was exceptional, I did remember it being somewhat acidic in finish.

Looking forward to trying Noon Whistles newest gummy series beer, "Let's Gummy" this afternoon. Interested to see how this batch will taste with the new Cryo-hops from YCH Hops.

As someone who has had some negative things to say about HBFTW, I certainly don't want to "hate". Up to & including their 1st 2 NE IPA's I was possibly their loudest supporter on here.

I just think they're quality has fallen off dramatically. It's an opinion; I respect yours even though it's not the same as mine.

Differing opinions do not always equal "hating".

So, Transient is releasing JIL today. Last batch I heard was not as good due to a change in yeast harvest usage, but according to a rep from Transient who posted in the SW Michigan thread, today's batch is back to its original roots and "the best batch they have ever produced".

I will say that original fresh batches of JIL, with their original yeast harvest usage, is the best IPA coming out of the Midwest, IMO. Debating to make the drive to Bridgman today to see if today's batch restores my faith.
