Chicagoland NE IPAs (2018)

Had about 25 minutes to kill yesterday so I stopped in and had a pour of Citra Whip. Definitely worth the pit stop if you're in the neighborhood, wish I would have had a little more time to enjoy it. May have to pop in again and give it a second opinion. Also based on wording of post I wonder if they may be putting this in cans for a brewery release. Would definitely consider picking up some if that is true.

Damn I grabbed some more Windy Hill cans without checking the bottom, ended up with this Southern Cross Wakatu batch instead of the Amarillo Simcoe batch and you are totally right, this is a completely different beer, golden yellow, slightly cloudy, not very NE style at all and just 'ok' as far as an IPA goes.

After work snack - sharing a really nice block of cheese with my toddler and dog on a muggy Chicago evening.

I feel like the bitterness has mellowed out quite a bit, but the fruit and soft mouthfeel remain. Very pleasant, and complimentary with the cheese (forgotten provenance - guessing soft rind sheep's milk). I'm excited to try more of Tryptych's work.

 

Agreed. Had my last can 2 nights ago and felt the bitterness had mellowed too. I'm hoping this is their next canning run...

 

Interesting, as I had my last can last night and really didn't care for it. The sweetness was overbearing. Perhaps it's just not my style. Or, I'm dysfunctional when tasting this beer, as I recall not caring for it the first can, then enjoyed it, and now am back to not caring for it.

 

Pipeworks is entering the game, albeit with a collab.

Me too. It's lolla weekend (hence why RTJ is going to be in town, so I'd reccomend stopping by earlier rather than later, as that stretch of Milwaukee will be nuts at night, and I'm sure they'll be a wait to get in.

It will for sure be available to purchase at the pop up bar, not sure about dojo or distro

 

I'd be very surprised if it was only available for 4-days.

 

Finishing my last can of Solemn Oaths NE IPA and I'm still impressed. A great first offering of the style from them.

Anybody else try it?

 

Stay Gold will see limited distro. And I'm pumped.
