Cumulus is an IPA and SS is a DIPA so I'd expect some significant differences between the two.

Fine, I guess I'll put it this way: Stratus reminded me a lot of Cumulus, but in DIPA form; higher alcohol, more bitter, maybe a little thicker. SS doesn't remind me of either one particularly, in that it both looks and feels more like fruit juice than the Hailstorm beers.

Hailstorm's stuff reminds me more of Enjoy By: Unfiltered, for the best comparison I can come up with (or Fantasy Factory, if you're familiar with Karben4's beer). I think Hubbard's Fresh IIPAs are more similar to SS in terms of feel than Cumulus/Stratus. But again, this is just my taste/thoughts on the matter; either way, I really like all the beers I've mentioned.

Special Sauce Galaxy: peach, pineapple, banana, dry grass. No booze heat. Fruity & pleasantly dry. Not life changing, perhaps, but very tasty and yes, "juicy". One of the better Sauces IMO; only the Nelson Sauvin beats it for me.

Keep in mind Batch 4 (Citra) is where I joined the fun.

For those interested, I just got back from Capone's for the Maplewood Son of Juice release and there were still six and a half cases left (as of 8:30pm). There was no limit.

I went to Capone's and grabbed a few bottles. I tasted it first and enjoyed it, so I figured I would get a couple for myself and one for my brother back in MI. It seemed like a really easy drinker. I poured it side by side with SS #7 and it's way lighter. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing, but the SS just had a much fuller body, but wasn't too overbearing. I think the SoJ is probably a much easier drinker on a warm summer day. It's a good beer, but nothing I'd beat myself up over for missing out on.

I wrote them re: the lack of carbonation. They acknowledged the issue and said they are working on fixing the carbonation problem

If they do fix it ... :grinning:

I'm glad to hear they want to change that. More carbonation shoots that beer up my list.

If Hubbard's fixes the carbonation, can we all here promise to keep it to ourselves so we don't have to go chasing the bottles like we do Mikerphone?:wink::wink:

Or we can just buy some sodastreams and fix it ourselves

I was a little underwhelmed by Son of Juice. Beautiful looking beer, but it didn't do much for me from a NEIPA standpoint, especially with the Nugget and Warrior hop additions.

SS7 was really good as expected. Probably still a notch below SS5 for me, but still very enjoyable.

I hate to fuel the hype, but if we're including The Juice Is Loose, it's the definitive best NEIPA I've been fortunate to try from this area. It hits every mark, the most important being that lasting hop juice flavor that lingers long after the swallow. That seems to be the key piece missing in a lot of these local attempts.

I was also a bit underwhelmed by Son of Juice (same for Juice Pants). The beer I poured looked nothing like the pre-release pics that showed a straight up NE milkshake. It was a fine tasting beer, but nothing I would go to a lot of trouble to get again. Looks like a trip to Transient is in my future!

Had a Hailstorm Cumulus last night, dated 8/20/16. Hazy but not milkshake style. Sweet orange & mild lemon notes, in the nose & on the tonge. Faint dry grass finish. Overall very nice; I've had a few Mikerphone's that exceeded this but I'd certainly have another.

I also had one last night and your description is spot on. This morning I rinsed the can before putting it in the recycling and a ton of sediment came out. Correction, a ton of awesome smelling sediment came out. Guess I need to agitate my next can a little more while pouring.

Agreed, when I washed out the can it took quite a few rinses! Next time...

Transient Juice Is Loose = citrus bomb. Orange, mango, cane sugar & banana. No milkshake haze but certainly opaque. Currently attempting to kill a growler due to a BMC family; what a pleasant form of torture!

Does Transient do growler sales? Im going to be up near the brewery over Columbus day weekend and I'm already plotting a way to get over there for an hour or so.

Transient does growler sales. I am not sure if they do them on all beers, but they were definitely doing growlers on Juice is Loose and Cromulent this weekend.

Typically they've only done growlers of their hoppy offerings, which I'm sure is just fine for the clientele in this thread.
