Chicagoland NE IPAs (2018)

Just grabbed a 4-pack out in Riverside dated 11/16/16 so a new batch should definitely be hitting the city soon.

I'm curious to try it again as I recall liking Cumulus the most out of the cloud series. Not just as a NE IPA, but on its own merit.

 

you guys think Binny's Grand or LP have Galaxy Bowl today? would like to pick some up after work. been lurking this thread for a while and curious to try it for myself.

 

Agreed on the Cumulus. I felt the last batch was a cut above the other 'clouds'; since then I've had a LOT of this style. I'm hoping I still like it just as much this time around.

 

Got my GB at beer temple yesterday around 5 pm. They were down to 3.5 cases from 30 the day before he said. Nuts

 

I grabbed one of the last packs of GB last night at Beer Temple, had a can last night. Man is this a really good beer. My girlfriend who doesn't like most IPAs had a bit and thought it was fantastic as well!

 

Stopped at Bottles and Cans after getting my Benthic. They still had a few cases of Galaxy Bowl scattered around.

 

GB was at Binnys Downers Grove earlier today. One 4 pack pp limit. Cheers.

 

It's nice to see a brewery turn around and brew a beer again after demand is strong. So many chicago breweries would wait 6 months to brew the beer again as a one time deal.

It would be really nice if a small brewery would realize no one cares about their 3rd best offering that isn't as good as what Bell's has been putting out for 10+ years, and instead just focused on what they do well and actually are able to sell.

 

I definitely don't think Galaxy Bowl is up there with the Trilliums, TH, and even Transients of the world, but if it was a semi-readily available year round beer, it would easily be one of the best hoppy beers available in the city, and one I would consistently buy.

 

Though it would be nice, the brewers might get bored out of their mind if they got into it for creative purposes.

 

Sure, but I bet seeing the espresso stout you brewed 7 months ago sitting on shelves isn't a great feeling either.

Or being completely irrelevant, Ala Atlas/Burnt city.

I bet Hop Butcher/South Loop is enjoying this way more than being another "who?, oh yeah, it's cool. We don't need to place another order. Your IPA and oatmeal stout from 10 weeks ago hasn't sold out yet."

 

Completely agree with this. In the crowded market right now, when you have something that strikes a cord, you need to take advantage. Props to them for doing so.

Looking forward to trying GB when I get the chance, may make a few stops tonight and see if I can get lucky.

 

Similarities make me think of Zombie Dust in a weird way and on a much smaller scale (and it's only been brewed twice). They brew it, it flies off the shelves because people love it fresh and know it's not as good not fresh.

 

Props 2015 or 2016?

 

2016. Wouldn't be mean enough to give them the 2015!
