I appreciate that, and as much as I prefer just focusing on making beer, I am compelled to defend my business and myself when accused of price gouging. It's frustrating to say the least. I don't think I'd have any problem selling this beer just like any number of my other fellow local brewers in a larger format, and if I did I probably wouldn't get half as much backlash for it.

I agree with you for the most part. Of course Transient cares about the present and future. You can tell by their current offerings. They excel in the current sought-after realm and they provide innovative offerings, as well.

My point wasn't that they shouldn't engage, it was that they shouldn't engage in pricing discussions. If it was a knock on quality, flavor profile, or even marketing, I could understand engagement. The problem with pricing is that it just comes off as defensive and takes the emphasis off of the beer.

I love Transient and their beer. The quality speaks for itself.

Thick skin will serve you well in this industry, probably a good investment. Perhaps you should put it in bombers to be competitive if people are charging $10-11 for a 22oz bomber. Those same people are charging $10-15 for their beer in 4 16oz cans. Learn the market....Bombers do not equal 4 or 6 pack pricing. Any trip to a liquor store should tell you that. You can value your product wherever your want. People will buy it, but getting offended when people call you out for charging more than much more reputable and talented brewers is asinine....

I respect you and your beer. I'm just saying that there's no need to get caught up in certain discussions. I worked in hospitality for ten years and my favorite boss had a saying; "please the masses, not the asses".

You're pleasing the masses right now.

I'm not insulting you, you claimed to be insulted that I insinuated that you were price gouging. Someone mentioned Trillium and Treehouse and those people clearly haven't purchased from those places as Trillium 4 packs are sub $15 and Treehouse are $17 or less....and they are regarded as the best around. You can price your beers however you want, I'd ask for the sky too if I were in your shoes knowing fools throw money around, I'm just calling b.s. on your pricing and you know you are either cleaning up on that premium or have some major inefficiencies if that is your break even.

Trillium double ipas at 18-22 a 4 pack.

Trying to say what you said isn't insulting to me is absolutely insane. (Price gouging/that I'm a less talented brewer)

Please explain why a double IPA has higher value per ounce in your eyes when it is in glass over a can? You seem very opinionated, so please use facts to support your position.

Look, I'm not trying to get in a pissing match here. I'm just stating that your beers are significantly more expensive than competitors and wondering why that is? If the answer is you choose to put them in 4 packs, that's great...I just don't see any other DIPAs in 4 packs selling for that much- gouging. What value are you putting in to achieve that premium?

I'm not trying to insult you, I'm just scratching my head as to what justifies that premium when it is objectively know by common metrics that you aren't on Ratebeers best brewers (I hope you get there), you don't have the big medals to back this up (I hope you get them), I'd love it if you were the 2nd coming of Shaun Hill, but to put yourself in the same category without the track record is pretty egotistical so I can see how rationale could bruise an ego.

C'mon guys. Aside from the fact that all these beers are within a dollar or two of each other (check what's currently on their websites), I'd really hope that the Chicago beer scene hasn't gotten so petty as to question whether w beer is worth x price if y beer in Massachusetts goes for z. Aside from the fact that every state has different liquor laws, and that Transient has been brewing these at Aquanaut, it's just a worthless discussion.

It's also ridiculous to tell someone that their beer can't commend a certain price because they're not some other brewer or brewery, because we all have different expectations for our beers. I thought Supplication was a waste of $20, and yet it's top tier here on BA. Let's not question why people price there beers where they do, if others see a value in it. When I find comparable beers for $10 a 4-pack I'll give more credence to the price discussion, but I yet to come close to that, so for now I won't.

Let's go back to the good 'ol days of peace and happiness on BA!

Are you familiar with 18th street brewery? Their prices are pretty ridiculous and, IMHO, their beer is far inferior to transient's quality. They were selling 4 packs (TWELVE oz cans) of grapefruit dead for 22 dollars. Most of their beers are way over priced.

Also, Transient sold well over 100 cases of this batch of JIL in Michigan at the 20 dollars a 4pack price the first day it was release. Some folks were buying multiple cases per person.

You clearly don't understand Chris or the respect people have for his beer in this community. You also clearly don't understand how free market works. Bitch all you want, but did you know transient had to rent space/time just to provide this beer to Illinois customers? That adds cost to the product and yet he didn't raise the prices relative to his what he charges at his location in Michiga. He actually dropped them at at least one location i can think of.

And please don't try to convince anyone you weren't looking for a "pissing match" when you attacked his reputation just a few lines below your claim to not be getting into one.

Thank god I don't brew professionally. Threads like this would probably be the end of my career.

My goodness these Illinois based threads are quite entertaining. FIB"s going full on FIB. So glad I live in Michigan where most of the people I know just buy good beer and drink it, not obsess over every single release from line waiting to price per oz to amount of haze.

Trillium only distributes to bottle shops in MA and Tree House is only at the their retail shop.
