Interesting, yeah, you would have thought I was drinking a totally different beer. Mine looked more like a Pliny

I'd love to tell you I knew from experience what that means.

Pliny's *gasp* overrated, honestly. I believe, 10 years ago, it was worth the hype, but now, with all of these big IPA's sweeping the nation, it's just meh. I'd rather have a Bling Pig and their Wilds.

I was told they dose the cans with C02 before filling them. Not familiar with the canning process int he slightest though so take that for what its worth.

Disagree. Fresh Pliny is one of the best IPAs out there IMHO. Key word being fresh.

One of the most well-balanced DIPAS out there. Expectations may hurt the beer for people just getting around to trying it now, but it's consistently an excellent beer. Sure the gap may have lessened, but it's still in the elite group, IMO.

Hi everyone! If anyone can give me some suggestions that would be awesome! I saw the first post of this thread, but wasn't sure if there was an updated list. I'm still exploring all the breweries out here in the Chicagoland area.

Unfortunately the list changes pretty much daily at this point. A lot of the smaller Chicago breweries have realized that brewing an NE IPA is an easy way to get noticed, so everyone is doing something. If you're looking for specific areas of Chicagoland, or specific breweries, let us know, and we can narrow down what to look out for.

This was my Reply Hazy I posted in WBAYDN last night. (@bowzer4birdie paid cash for that plug and thank you beers ) I thought the beer was just good. Pretty well balanced amount of hops, orange, got some of that Belgian flavor I've been complaining about, nothing over powering though. I was disappointed I didn't get much Citra. Overall I think I'm done buying Hop Butcher IPA's. I just don't get the hype and I'm the one that admittingly buys into hype.

Hey Sean thanks for replying I am in the Bolingbrook/Naperville area if that helps at all. I do go into the city though for work 5 days a week in Lincoln Park.

If you're looking for soon, Noon Whistke in Lombard has two great NE IPAs. I think they're the only NE style floating around at the moment.

I had the second (and last) of mine. Agree with a lot of this. The one thing I'll add - it was mostly the same beer I drank 3 weeks ago. Still hazy, still good but had hints of Hefeweizen. I was half expecting it to have "fallen off" and was pleasantly surprised.

I think I need to find a way to go into all beer drinking expecting less, it's funny how you're expectations impact your experience

I'm probably not gonna get to my last can of RH this weekend (thanks to a couple howlers from Half Acre), so I'm looking forward to having a thoroughly "old" can (by Hop Butcher NE standards) sometime next week. I'm hoping to have a similar experience to yours.

On a related note, I picked up a howler of Animal Law at HA last night. It's not life-changing (it has that same "Half Acre taste" you get from all the IPAs that use their house yeast), but it's completely hazy, has a relatively full feel, and while I'm not sure what hops were used, it tastes to me like mosaic is one of the leads. I'd recommend anyone in the mood give it a shot. I don't consider it a full-on NE IPA, but it has enough things in common that I think fans of the style (and Half Acre) will enjoy it.

Their beers are great the first week or so after they are canned. Anything that sits longer is a pretty big disappointment.

I took your advice and I'm having one of their NE IPA's "Funny Gummy" Great choice, Cheers!

Too me, they definitely jumped in the top 5 contender of NE style in Chicago. Funny Gummy and my favorite the peach one are simply fantastic.

I had animal law last week and I thought the same thing - it was good and was pretty nice for a NE style IPA but I could tell in a blind tasting it was made by Half Acre - it just had that same taste.
