Visiting Pittsburgh for the first time with the family, including kids ages 5, 3, and 1, from lunch time Friday through Sunday morning, staying in Bakery Square. All recommendations (even non-beer related) are welcome. TIA.

Hofbrauhaus Pittsburgh is great to let kids run around, especially among the outside seating.
We've also just stocked up on beer at the Giant Eagle Shadyside, then enjoyed them back in the hotel room after the kids have gone to sleep.
I've seen other parents with young children munching on food from one of the food trucks at Dancing Gnome, but I have yet to try that myself.
For non beer locales, the Children's Museum and Carnegie Science Center are our favorites.

Agreed with jwat about Hofbrauhaus. Also, outdoor spaces are always great for letting the kids run around a bit - Grist House fits that bill pretty nicely.

We have a map that lists details on every PA brewery, including the option to filter whether they are "family friendly" but to be honest most breweries list themselves as family friendly and at the end of the day there is a big difference between "ok to bring kids" vs. "a good spot to bring kids." So that map filter is not quite as helpful as we'd hoped

From my experience I haven't been to a place yet that is kid friendly in Pittsburgh. They really haven't caught up with places like Richmond, Charlotte, Asheville in those terms.

Hofbrauhaus is just a big loud restaurant with mediocre beer. Kids would be fine there I guess.

Carnegie Science Museum, Zoo, National Aviary if into that.

I second all of the non beer things mentioned

easy city to get around w/ kids, easy parking

my kids are close in age to yours (1, 3, and 6 as of last month) so I know what it's like

went a little over two years ago

Dancing Gnome is small and only has stools but we just had a couple of drinks quick and got cans to go the first time we went...went the next day for another can they released and then left

Brew Gentleman, one of my kids fell asleep on the way so I went in and got a few half pours while holding the other then left

Fat Heads, ate dinner there and they have high chairs for kids

got a couple things at Giant Eagle Shadyside but there was much of anything outside of Fatheads that was available that isn't available in my area...and Fatheads is now more accessible to me then it was then with being in markets outside of where I live

I would look at places to get stuff to go...Hitch Hikers seems to have picked up in popularity and does cans which have been good in my experience

+1 on Hitchhiker and Grist House as far as breweries go. In the non-beer category, when they were little my kids liked riding the Duquesne Incline up Mount Washington and grabbing some ice cream. Nice view from up there; my daughter goes to college in Pittsburgh now and I still like going up there for the view.
