I've had a few (including Wabasha Brewing and Oswald Brewing) and appreciate them on a surface level.

Can anyone recommend some out there that I can get in the liquor stores? I don't want it to scorch my throat, but I do like some kick. Thanks.

Prairie Bomb! is as good as they come. If you can find Central Waters Space Ghost, it is also an excellent imperial stout with peppers. Habenaro Sculpin is pretty good as well if you are looking for an IPA. Avoid Mango Magnifico. It is a shelf turd for a reason.

The last one I had (that I reviewed and/or recall) was Serrano Pepper Ale from Saugatuck. Although I enjoy peppery heat, this was not too biting at all, but was approachable and well-balanced.

( Full disclosure: I used to love "Crazy Ed's Cave Creek Chili Beer." :grinning: )

Bent River's Jalapeno Pepper Ale is pretty good.

Green Flash made one that I thought was good. Space Ghost is good.

Habanero Sculpin from Ballast Point is readily available in liquor stores in Minnesota. It's pretty spicy, but I like it in small amounts.

i wasn't a fan of the evil twin fire water, but if you want something minnesota hot, that's a decent option. base beer was kind of foamy, but ok. i missed any heat in it, but it had some good green chili flavor.

now if only someone would make a beer aged in tabasco barrels, that'd be perfect.

I liked Mango Magnifico a bit more than Habanero Sculpin. The later I found to be all vegetal heat and flavor. I really like Space Ghost but one that has not been mentioned yet would be Stone Xocoveza but may be a bit hard to find right now. I believe they release it rotationally now.

A couple of months ago my local JL Beers had a cellared keg of BOMB!, and boy did the pepper come to the forefront! The taptender said they had aged it 6mo.

Thanks for the suggestions, all. I'd rather hear directly from folks than just take a crap shoot on looking at lists and some arbitrary ratings. It's nice to hear reasoning for your thumbs up or down.

I would highly recommend Wildfire by Fitger's, but you can't get it at a liquor store.

I enjoyed Aun Mas Todo Jesus but if your feeling ambitious try and get a bottle of Mexican Cake or an excellent but not as well known beer is Dire Wolf Canis Mexicanus from Lone Wolf Brewing in Ohio.

Aun mas chile Jesus from evil twin is very good. Not quite as good as prairie bomb, but also very good. Both are well balanced between the interplay of chocolate, malt, and heat-the latter of which is subtle but lingers on the finish for both beers. On a completely separate note, fiery hell would also be a good option, as it's a surly beer and thus easy to find here in Minnesota.

mole smoke isn't as cool a name as fiery hell, but a chili, smoked porter sounds better than a hot helles lager.

Habenero Sculpin is one of my favorite beers. Wish they brewed it year round. For a hot beer? Twisted Pine Ghost Face Killah. When I bought a bottle from the 2015 batch, the clerk asked if I had tried it before. I responded with an enthusiastic yes, and left him speechless!

+1 for Prairie Bomb, that stuff is legit and was in every store I was in while I was in the MSP area last week. I also came across a shelf full of Xocoveza at a smallish bottle shop in IGH. I don't remember what the place was called but it was in a small strip mall that faced a McDonalds.

Not super hot but my favorite is BP Indra Kunindra. Beer like Ghost Face are nasty IMO.

Opened a stone punishment last night. Shits not even drinkable. Idk why the hell you'd make it so spicy. Don't get that one
