It depends. Do you pour first, and then add the ice cubes, or do you pour the beer over the ice cubes?

I put my beers into the fridge for 5 minutes or so, did it to a BCBS last night. But it took me an hour drinking it too, I like to taste the changes as it settles in. IPA's I chill the glass as well and it ruins absolutely nothing, so frozen mug away. Or I drink from the can, HT, Abrasive etc.

Took me awhile to figure out the whole chilled glass thing but trust me MUCH better not doing it.
IPAs do taste better colder as a rule but most beers loose flavor being super chilled....

I guess I'll join the fun. I like to drink my Porters from a chilled funnel. As for IPA's, they are best served from the top of an Ice Luge. Yeah... I mean you gotta try to stay bro to the extreme :sunglasses: .

F it OP. do what you like. I for one dont have room in my freezer to keep glasses but a friend of mine always has some in his. to be honest on a hot days this summer its been nice to grab one and head out on his porch to hang out. guess we are drinking lagers, apa, single ipas etc mostly. not sure id do it w a stout or dipa but then again i wouldnt be drinking them out of a pint anyway. dont buy into the "this is the right way to drink a beer" nonsense. id observe others opinions and give it some consideration but in the end, do what you like best.

It is 110 degrees outside at 7pm when we start to play bocce, yeah - I have a cold glass that is dry - not frosted, because the humidity is always below 18% and averaging around 8% year around. Believe me, that beer will be hot in 15 minutes even with the cold glass.

Thankfully, the bars I go to are air conditioned and none offer a frozen glass. Just a quick spritz of water to rinse it and then the beer goes in.

What does a chilled glass do for a beer? I mean, it doesn't keep it cold which is why I assume people do it. If anything, pint glasses are so thick they reduce the temp of beer quickly anyway.

I always say do what you wanna do and what makes you happy but this one just doesn't make sense to me.

Do whatever you want! However you enjoy beer, that's the right way!

That said, I wouldn't do that. Freezing my glass is great for hard cider and Miller Lite. I wouldn't dream of doing that for an IPA, stout, Belgian, etc.

I haven't seen the official rule book so you drink your beer anyway you like.

I don't advocate the frozen mug but I will say that storing my beer glasses in the fridge along side my beer does a good job of helping control the pour. No sudden temp increase or decrease seems to control the head. And it is a convenient way to keep my glass wear out of the wives way.

That's hardly the best advice. There are plenty of styles that are perfectly fine to drink from a pint glass.

What kind of question is that!? You obviously pour over the ice! What are we, heathens!?

Don't do it for any beer. You get much more flavor and aroma in a room temp glass.

I have noticed that pouring into a frozen glass can sometimes increase the amount of head.

Has anyone noticed that a lot of better craft bars rinse glassware before pouring? There's three reasons for this, and one of them is to cool the glass. With that said, there's a difference between cooled and frosted.

Frosted glassware is bad, always. For one thing the temperature is not conducive to actually tasting or smelling the beer. Additionally, the glass will actually pick up other aromas from your freezer. Then there's the fact that the ice crystals cause major foaming issues.

Most waiter/waitresses in restaurants think this is odd, but every time I've briefly explained why, they say "oh ok, that makes sense". I hope in the future if someone isn't ordering BMC, then they'll ask about a chilled glass rather than assuming a customer wants one.
