A glass is a mere vessel. It allows us to not have to suffer the indignity of having to drink from the original container- Egads! If the post was real, I say do what you like and not worry about being vetted by a crazed bunch of word mongers, and worse. As a matter of fact "The Frosty Mug" is a perfectly unoriginal retro name for a cool bar, har, har. My takeaway is that some people take all of this WAY too seriously.

Was served Alpine Nelson in San Fran in a glass as close to a regular "pint glass" at it could have been--it had a little ridge in it. The beer was just freaking incredible. It was so good no glass could have heated or cooled it before it was gone.

I have some imperial pint glasses from England and just love them--I never freeze them.

I guess for me it all comes down to, what difference does it make? I used to drink beer out of frosted mugs. It can be pleasant (and I do enjoy it for some beers) but they too eventually warm up (and tend to get wet/messy) - and to those of you who say you prefer it - and there's no lost taste in your opinion - I don't mean to make accusations, but if you always drink your beer like this, is it possible that you're unaware of the flavor intensity you're missing out on?

City Beer Store uses these little pint glasses with a ridge on the inside about two thirds down the glass. Anyone knows what that ridge is for? Stacking?

Just why lagering was invented the cold temperature masks any inadequacies the beer has to offer, it is meant to be drank as close to freezing as possible. As you grow into your craft beer drinking you will find, as many have already said before, that your beer will change as it warms up. You should again try to drink your beer at the suggested serving temp on the bottle but you also should try to find things that you enjoy while experimenting with this craft world.

    Cheers!

For most "cold drinking" styles, I'd prefer a slightly chilled glass over shocking the beer by pouring it into a warm glass. IMHO in a perfect world, the glass temp would equal the beer temp.

The pint glass is fine, but I wouldn't freeze it. Ultimately though, if you enjoy it go for it. Just know that the beer styles you have listed are not traditionally served ice-cold.

Ideally you want your glass at the same temperature at the beer going into it. This is why fancy beer bars usually have glass rinsers these days that rinse and dust or detergent/sanitizer off of the surface of the glass while chilling it down before pouring a beer into it. Warm glasses are bad because they cause excessive foaming while pouring, and frozen glasses are bad because ice crystals will do the same. At home, I rinse my glasses with chilled, filtered water from the fridge and then give them a quick shake over the sink before pouring a beer. Always use filtered water as water with any chlorine aroma will affect the aroma of the beer.

Troll or not...I am sometimes in the mood for a beer in a frosty glass...and seeing how I don't have any BMC in the fridge...it's usually a nice craft beer...sometimes I am forced to drink beer out of this...because no one at my house seems to know how to do dishes or fill the dishwasher....

I know temperature changes taste but frozen glass keeps it cold and as it warms I get a different taste . Its like I changed beers but never poured another.

I'm generally against chilled glasses unless I order a macro that calls for it.
