Hi guys new to the trading scene here although already in over my head lol but question is what's the standard with shipping beer that is cold? only ask because some breweries near me including Treehouse give you the beer already cold I try to buy warm in general when I can so I don't clog my fridge just curious on the communities opinions

In my experience, it doesn't make any difference (whether you buy it warm or cold). A lot of places are like Treehouse in that they only sell cold bottles/cans to go. I've never had a trading partner indicate that was an issue, and have never had a trading partner complain that they thought the quality had deteriorated due to a temperature change.

    I wouldn't worry about it.

nice, thanks for the reply. kind of figured that was the case outside of extreme temps one way or the other

Depends on the beer, but IPAs should be kept cold while you store them. Stouts in fridge or cellar temp.

When shipping them there is nothing you can do to keep the beer cold, it is not necessary. But you do want to be careful about shipping in extreme heat and extreme cold. A best practice is pick a shipping day to avoid a box sitting in a warehouse on weekend.

I recently traded with someone that sent me a bunch of Tree House, and they attempted to keep it cold for me while shipping it. They wrapped everything in a thermal bag that included a couple of ice packs. It was a nice effort and gesture, but by the time it got to Milwaukee everything was at room temp. I didn't know he was going to do this, or else I would have told him to save on shipping and don't bother.

On the plus side, I now have two more ice packs!!

thanks guys. yea everything I have is in my basement with minimal light where I have a 2nd fridge. so if I'm able I try to keep stuff not in fridge just for space saving reasons but really didn't think I could keep anything cold outside of massive ice packs in boxes with faster shipping speeds but then the cost would be astronomical

I use the Goldilocks system which is to wrap each container in insulating bubble wrap so they get neither too hot nor too cold in transit. This provides protection as well.
