The heavier Bleue and Verte varieties will remain bottled for the time being. “You don’t drink those in just a few gulps,” said CEO Pierre-Louis Dhaeyer. ‘Murican beer drinkers: “Hold my other beer.”
Yeah, but you got to admit those two beers are best quietly sipped in a proper Chimay chalice instead of chugged. And yep, also approve of Chimay in cans. Even Saison Dupont did it so…
The white one has been in cans for a while. I don't really have an opinion beyond noting that a lot of US stores would rather carry cans than bottles these days. Most of the displays are geared toward them. If that makes a few more stores carry 'em, that's a good thing.
The cans are nice and convenient for travel, fishing and poolside, but I still would rather pour and drink Chimay from the bottle. I have had the canned Cinq Cents and I must admit, it's still pretty tasty, but in my opinion I believe that it's better from the bottle. I'll have to do a sight impaired side by side comparison, for research purposes only now. Just the thought of Grande Reserve in a can gives me the heebee jeebees.
Yeah, I guess they never heard of that Alabama dumbass who chugged the bottle of Utopias. (Allegedly. I still think that was fake as hell.)
Have seen White in cans for quite a while, it’s a good bit less than bottles. One spot has a few year old white cans for $12. Not sure how white ages. Enjoy
... and in my opinion, Saison Dupont was downgraded with this packaging change (I mean the beer, not the aesthetics). But I give Chimay credit for maintaining secondary fermentation in the can format. I wonder if they've lowered their target carbonation level for cans though. What a bunch of nonsense. It's hard to react to that because I'm unsure of the intent. I bet Chimay still wants consumers to pour their beer (and leave the sediment) despite the packaging variety. Something is holding them back. I wonder if the decision was partially based on them avoiding cans in cases where people are more likely to age the product. Or maybe it's due to any limitations (or concerns) of secondary fermentation in cans.
I have tried the Red in a can and it was good. And, it was cheaper than the bottles. I just poured it in glass.
I know. There’s just something about drinking a delicious 750ml bottle of Cinq Cents and chilling out on the couch for the rest of the evening.
