What is worth my time for a quiet night's drinking?

If you are sticking to Chinatown specifically, RFD is going to deliver the most options. I wouldn't call the most quiet of places by any stretch of the imagination, though I am usually there before hockey games with dozens of other fans. Without hockey it may be relatively quiet, the patio is fairly serene regardless.

    K. Is Matchbox, Chophouse, Iron Horse, or Fado worth any of my time?

I didn't care for Fado much, that's all I recall about it.

Chophouse's beers are forgettable, but they do put together a decent meal.

Matchbox was decent, I like Ella's more personally but you could flip a coin.

I can't speak to Iron Horse, I have not been.

I feel the need to add, the food at RFD does leave a lot to be desired. But the beer list can not be topped in that area.

RFD is your best bet for beer. With no huge sporting event on tonight, I can't imagine it would be super crazy. Iron Horse is also good, but they're just a taproom, meaning they don't have a kitchen. Fado will likely have a couple craft options and they food is pretty solid, but nowhere near the beer list of RFD. Matchbox will have a decent list, if you can get a seat at the bar, which is tough. Matchbox is usually quite packed.

RFD had knowledge bartenders, quick service, great selection. Loud. Very loud. Had to leave after four.

Matchbox was all 20-30yo jr exec girls in skin tight hooker dresses, and the slightly older jr exec men trying to get into their pants. Sipped a beer, got cynical, bailed.

Skipped Fado based on the advice here.

DC chop house was (of course) a slightly stuffy Rock Bottom, but too hot. Good house beer. Too hot for a second one.

Gorden Biersch ended up being dinner. Their Festbeer is good when you are already ripped. Not sure how it is when not ripped. Good food. Moved outside, had another, and one more.

Was walking to Iron Horse when my wife, who joined me at GB, pointed out I was already drunk. We bailed out and went home. She drove.
