With all this Halloween candy around the house I decided to revisit pairing IPA w/ chocalate; a combination I had success w/ years ago. So w/ a growler of Subzero IPA from Rock Bottom brewpub (KoP, PA) and bar of Snickers and Nestles Crunch I dug in. Same success. The smooth richness of the chocolate tamed the hop bitterness leaving behind nearly pure citrus on the palate. Really nice. Try it.
    Thanks

I'm on board with the beer and chocolate ....but I'll just go with solid dark chocolate ...

As far as I am concerned, beer (pale ales et al., but especially AALs) and really sweet, chocolate-based candy are one of the best pairings there is. Give me some Reese's and a cold PBR and I'll make myself sick hahaha

As to IPAs, I have found that caramel also goes really, really well with them (especially your less tropical IPAs).

The last thing I had that was out of left field that paired with an IPA that was fantastic was some slightly fatty duck prosciutto.

unreal, still thinking about it...:grinning:

I just learned tonight that chocolate and chocolate candy pair really well with IPAs. My friend suggested it a long time ago and I didn't believe him at the time. I like eating the chocolate and then taking a big swig of the IPA. The floral-fruity hoppiness provides a citrus flavor to liven up the chocolate, while the bitterness balances out the sweetness of the chocolate.

Yes! Dark chocolate all the way! Especially with porters and stouts. Maybe ESBs, Belgian grand reserves, and brown dubbels, too.

I like it with red ipas but nothing else. It just messes with me going from sweet to bitter.
