I just had a Ska Mole Stout. A little thin but interesting, for a 6 pack beer I like it. I wish it had more heat though. I loved Cocoa Mole last year, not sure if it is going to be brewed again but I hope so. I would really like to try more examples of this style, specifically chocolate chile beers. The Chile Beer section has two beers so that was a dead end. Thanks for any help!

It isn't bottled, but Copper Kettle on Denver won a GABF gold with their Mexican Chocolate Stout. It's similar to Ska's, but much better.
The best bottled version I've had is New Belgium's Cocoa Mole. It's still around in a few places.

Hunahpu's is the perfect chile beer IMO. It has more than just chilies and chocolate in there though but the chilies are pretty prominent which is why I love it.

I actually prefer Ska's Mole Stout to NB's Cocoa Mole. Have a feeling I'm in the minority, but when I also take price into consideration, it's no contest.

Hunahpu's really is the gold standard, but Perennial's Abraxas is a pretty solid runner up.

Clown Shoes' Chocolate Sombrero was pretty tasty, imo.

What about Theobroma? I've heard good and bad about it, and it seems really unique. Any opinions here on that one?

Wow, great recommendations. I have an Abraxis coming in a trade. Definitely going to get some Hunahpu as well. I will have to look up Theobroma.

I thought Theobroma was second only to Cocoa Mole. Not as good but still quite good.

As mentioned, Clown Shoes has Chocolate Sombrero which is pretty good. They also have a new one out, Luchador el Fuego which is a bigger version, aged in Wild Turkey and Heaven Hill barrels.

Don't forget that Chocolate Oak Aged Yeti has chile peppers in it too.

I love chocolate/chile combinations...such a perfect pairing. Will have to trade for some Hunahphauhauhus someday.

I just went to the Strangebrew Fest in Eureka this past weekend and had a beer brewed by Mad River called "Mayan Apocalypse". It was a chocolate chile stout and was absolutely fantastic. Heavy on the chocolate but with the perfect hint of chiles in the background. I'm pissed they don't bottle it

Ive had Rogue Chipotle which I thought was interesting, although no chocolate in it. Saly, the only chocolate chile beer ive ever had was Shocl Top end of the world (free sample) which I thought was crappy

If you love chocolate/chili beers you need to try Oddside Ales Mayan Stout. It's out of muskegeon, MI so hard to get if you don't live nearby. Similar to cocoa mole but hotter on the chile and a little more heavy. Can be purchased in growlers!

Hunahpu and Abraxas are the 2 of the best I have had.

I kept thinking about Cocoa Mole but never tried it. I have had a couple decent chile beers, but not much. I actually just tried Ska's Mole Stout tonight as well. It was good, the heat was balanced well with the chocolate, but I don't think I could drink more than one in a sitting. The flavor was just too much to be sessionable. That said, it is good and I'd have loved it with some tacos or carne asada.

    The best I've had
Huna (although, I put this into a different league, simply because it's not an everyday beer)
Cocoa Mole (I agree that this should be released again, if not, NB can go fuck themselves....kinda)
Elysian Peste (apocalypse beer and it was one of my favorites, but be ready, it is spicy)
Elysian Blight (another apocalypse beer, and labeled as a "pumpkin" beer, but it's strait cinnamon a la cocoa mole)

The Shock Top sucks, sorry V-LIFE.

Theobroma is the only one I have had, but NB Cocoa Mole is waiting in my fridge. I would definitely recommend Theobroma. The chocolate isn't as forward as one would like or expect, but the heat is a beautiful slow burn, and the beer itself tastes great. Considering its availability, you couldn't go wrong. I will almost certainly be giving Chocolate Sombrero a try in the very near future, given how delicious Vampire Slayer is.

I have had several different ones and Theobroma is my favorite out of all of them. For some reason it just is amazing to me

You won't find Breakside's Aztec anywhere but on tap in Portland (but they plan to begin bottling in 2013). Check out the description here: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/22843/67270 (btw, it's listed as an 'American Strong Ale' here)

I thought Theobroma was really well done, no complaints. Stone's Chipotle Smoked Porter hit it out of the park against the normal offering IMO. Everyone hates 11.11.11, but I thought it as outstanding. Great chile flavors with nearly zero heat present with a nice Belgian component. I have a New Holland Cocoa Mole in my fridge right now, and I have good faith it will be at least tasty; I have been quite impressed with most of New Holland's high gravity series. Also the Left Hand pepper porter fade to black vol 3 was quite delicious. I am a hot sauce junkie with food, so I am always open to trying a beer with peppers in it. Just not Cave Creek, never had and I don't plan on it.
