Here's something you may find interesting. To commemorate the end of the Mayan calendar, Rivertown Brewing (Cincinnati) is producing a series of beers named after the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse . The first three beers in this series (Pestilence, War, and Famine) were, IMO, rather ho-hum. However, I have been told that the Death beer will be an Imperial Stout brewed with ghost chiles. It will be available soon, though I don't know just how far from Cincinnati you'll be able to find it.

This thread gets me anxious to crack open my New Holland El Mole Ocho.
Also have 11.11.11 but wondering if I should wait on that one.

Black Butte XXIII was great. I also really enjoy Birrifico Del Ducato.

Jester King out of Austin, TX had a limited release this year with Mikkeller called Beer Geek Rodeo, which is brewed with chipotle peppers and coffee. It has that nice spicy crackle, plus the sweetness of a great chocolate beer.

Nobody mentioned Reunion Ale between Terrapin and Schmaltz? Great beer!

Oh, and Huna of course because it is my all-time favorite beer.

DFH theobroma, terrapin/shmaltz renuion, and SA The vixen are my faves. i had the vixen about a year or so before its release at the SA brewery near boston it was my first chili chocolate beer experience they were giving away taste sampling outside the front door. fell in love with the stuff the bottled version two years later seemed a little weaker but my palate probably just changed. Elsyian Peste was intense when i first had but another great offereing from them

Bootlegger's Black Phoenix or the more welsh alternative, Imperial Phoenix.

I liked this one as well. They did another Reunion this year, but I don't think it had the chilis like the 2011 did.

    Chocolate OA Yeti
    Shmaltz/Terrepin Reunion
    SA Chocolate Chili Bock
    DFH Theobrama (horrible IMHO)
and CCB Huna which from what I hear is far and above the best. Looking forward to trying it one day.

Theobroma was great. Look for this every year. Some others that I thought were pretty good were 5 Vulture from 5 Rabbit Cerviceria in Chicago and (not sure if this counts) Left Hand Fade to Black Vol 3 (pepper porter). The latter was really good.

Theobroma is pretty awful (and im a DFH lover in general) the Ska beer is ideal for about 4 oz then.... it bores while overstimulating the palate. Cocoa Mole is a masterwork and justifies the continuation of NB all by itself. Indra Kunindra by BP is very, very nice though thinner than it should be. Chocolate Yeti is one of the best things GD has done and the chillis are not subtle in a new bottle; an excellent choice if you can get a new one. And i'll be the (only one?) to second Stone 11.11.11....it was by far the best of the series (admit: never had the first two and generally hate Stone beers) and the chilli component is ridiculous.

Any idea on how to get Luchador? Is it a MA only kinda thing or it'll be distributed everywhere? I'd think it would be brewery only but apparently from what I can see that's not legal where they are in MA?

I don't think they have any brewery-only releases - that I've heard of anyway. It will probably at least see local distribution like all their other stuff. It should be out really soon according to their blog.

Just saw that you're not from MA, hmm not sure on their more limited releases. Did you guys get their limited stuff like Angry Beast, Flight Of The Pimp, Porcine Unidragon etc? If not I doubt you'd see Luchador. I'm lucky in that I'm very close to them, in fact the owner of Clown Shoes runs a liquor store that's 20 mins from my house.

i really liked indra. and they rebrewed it recently so it's not that hard to obtain a bottle.

my personal favorite (better than hunah IMHO) is alesmith's chipotle and morita pepper speedway stout. it's tap only and rarely makes an appearance but the heat and smoke of the chipotle and pepper took the perfection of speedway to the next level for me and the beer had some legitimate spicey heat.

This is my answer too. But I also enjoyed Chocolate Sombrero, 2011 Terrapin/Schmaltz Reunion (2012 was similar but without the chilies) and Cocoa Mole. Black Phoenix was ok and Chocolate Yeti's pepper is too hidden to count.
