just curious if anyone has seen this before. Brewed a chocolate milk stout been in primary for 10 days took a sample and when I opened the lid there was a HUGE layer of thick foam krausen on top. Sample tasted great not worried about infection but I don't remember seeing that the last time I brewed the recipe. Anyone ever brewed a chocolate milk stout with bakers cocoa powder and lactose and seen that before? I used a pound of lactose and a pound of the cocoa. Oh and a half pound of that PB2 peanut butter powder stuff. Used US05 yeast.

Holy crap, that's a lot of cocoa powder (assuming it's a gallon batch). I'm pretty sure that you're seeing a lot of the cocoa powder along with the yeast which could certainly make the krausen much bigger. You also used PB2...so I'm be safe to say this is why the krausen is much bigger.

My bad shoulda stayed i got like 6.5 gallons into the bucket. Have to compensate for the sludge that the cocoa leaves behind

Sometimes Chico Yeast decides not to drop for some reason. I have had to rack finished beer from underneath it.
