I'm not going to name the beer because I have no intention of slandering. Has anyone noticed a chicolate like phlegm substance in a beer before? I recently drank a bomber of an oak aged beer that had cocoa nibs added. I drank half last night, then finished the rest tonight. After the head settled today, I noticed a dark brown viscous item floating in the beer. I was literally able to grab it and pull it out and it felt very snot like. I didn't taste it, but it appeared very chocolatly. Is this normal? Maybe due to oxidation since I drank half the bottle last night and capped with a wine stopper? I still drank the beer and it tasted great....
This question gets asked occasionally. Here's your answer and a pic. Does this look like what you have? Coagulated proteins is the answer, and it won't hurt you. http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/whats-this-snot-like-stuff-in-my-beer.102906/
Definitely it! Thanks! I didn't even search since I couldn't even think of a great way to search a topic that seemed so unique.
A friend of mine encountered a very polymer-like sediment in a 3-year old Founders Frangelic Mountain Brown. It looked like a tentacle hanging out of his mouth.
Well thats fucking gross. I luckily have never encountered this. And I used to worry about getting yeast sedimentation in my pours....whole new level here.
Had this happen with a Lost Abbey Serpents Stout some 3 years ago. Was drinking it when suddenly I felt something substantive in my mouth...I pulled it out and to my surprise, I then felt it coming back up my throat - in the end, I had a very long beer loogie hanging out of my mouth. Haven't had that beer since
