I tried to take a look through the ISO:FT posts to figure this out and narrowing the search down to trades involving just b1 was too difficult so I'm looking for some outside help on this. Basically, I'm trying to get some sort of understanding as to the general trade value of b1 chocolate rain vs. b2 and b3. I know from seeing some posts on the trading forum that, in many people's minds, the trade value between the batches is significant, I just don't really know how much. I'm trying to get a handle on this because I'm considering offering the CR b1 as part of an offer in an attempt to get a BVDL. I understand that I will still need to add quite a bit, It's just difficult for me to decided on how much more without understanding the true value of a CR b1. So, to get to the point, if you've traded for a CR b1 or traded away a CR b1 lately (or can just help me out generally as to your opinion), I'd really appreciate if you could let me know the other bottles involved in the trade. Sorry for the long winded explanation Thanks for the help! Matt
One per RS Member in 2011, so about a 700 bottle count? Based on that logic, I don't know why you'd need to add much, if anything at all, to get a BA DL, aside for maybe the Vanilla due to extreme demand for that variant. If you think about it, CR is really just a variant of BT, like BA DL are variants of DL. The problem you'll run into is that many people with BA DL are newer to trading and value BA9k higher than a CRb1.
Another problem is the fact that there has been more Chocolate Rain produced since then and if someone really wants to try it they'll probably just trade for the new vintage as opposed to swinging for the fences on batch 1. It's definitely a fair trade, but you'll have to be lucky in that someone with a BADL has to only want/tick batch 1 Chocolate Rain as opposed to more easily obtainable vintages.
This is true but the problem with it is that B1 CR is considerably better than B2 I havent had b3 but thats just my opinon too.
I don't think it states the vintage on the bottle but I know each vintage has a different ABV so you can definitely tell that way.
I think OP's problem is that since the release of those 700-ish bottles there has been a LOT of Chocolate Rain sold in addition. B1 had such a high value because RS members only received one bottle. Now, Hoarders can buy a total of 10 bottles, making it pretty hard to justify trading a king's ransome for a bottle that, judging from replies to this thread, is arguably as good as any other bottle. Realistically, OP is looking for a trade partner that 1) won a BVDL, 2) has no plans to drink it, and 3) wants to build a CR vertical. This trader may not exist.
CR batch 1 is made with 2010 Black Tuesday, not the highly coveted '09 Black Tuesday, which is arguably a different beer than the more recent vintages. 2010 Black Tuesday doesn't trade much different (or taste much different) than the 2011 and 2012. I think that is a big difference.
