Have any of you ever seen a bottle of Chocolate Rain that wasn't waxed? I recently acquired a bottle and though it was a bit odd to not be waxed.

No bikini line jokes please

I've seen it thrice, and it was always waxed.

Maybe he took the wax of because he was gonna open it then changed his mind?

    Cheers!

Every bottle I've seen (probably a dozen in total) was waxed. It seems very odd for some to not be.

Suspicious...No wax is like the bottle cap on a snapple bot snapping when first opened... I would be a little worried the beer inside is not what it should be.... Not saying that's the case, its just that I've seen a ton of CR and never seen an unwaxed bottle....then again this could be a one-off white flying unicorn whale beer.

I got a bottle from a friend of mine that used to be a brewer for The Bruery and it was not waxed. He got the bottle before they waxed them and he had several more bottles that weren't waxed. I have drank it, and I can guarantee you it was CR in the bottle.

The other bottles I have/have received have all been waxed.

Take a very good look at the label. Does it look like it was applied professionally? I'd be a little skeptical that you're not holding a bottle of Chocolate Rain, but a bottle with a CR label.

Look up under the cap and see if there's any sign of there being wax in there in the past.

How did you acquire this bottle? I think that would probably answer your question. If it was a reputable trader, he can probably explain how it came to be. If you bought it on Ebay, it was probably refilled with something.

Maybe it was a hand bottled batch 1 I have heard of someone doing this. Care to add who the trader was

actually, i'm agreeing with your guess, not confirming it. it wasn't me. i just think there are far simpler, likelier explanations than a relabeled or recapped bottle.

I know. Just having fun on the internetz. I know Siggy, I am sure he didnt ebay the CR, so that was my guess. People always like to go all out when making claims.

    Cheers!

How common is it that someone removes the wax completely? If I don't just dig an opener into the wax to get at the cap, I'll only remove the wax until I have the crown exposed. Every waxed Bruery bottle I have has wax down the neck, so I can't imagine someone wasting their time to remove all traces of wax... If so, OCD is a bitch lol

i'd wager a lot more common than people relabeling or recapping fake bottles. seriously, if anyone has been a recipient of such a bottle on this site or ebay, i would love to hear about it.

i correctly predicted violence at beer events in 2012... i'm feeling pretty good about my prediction here too.

I think it would be difficult-to-impossible to prove that this happened, and if someone did have definitive proof they'd probably be loathe to admit they were had. So I doubt you'll ever see confirmation. (Not that I think it's particularly likely either, just saying that we'll probably never know if it has happened.)

Also, I was taking "no wax" to mean "no sign it had ever been waxed". As someone who has tried to blind waxed bottles, wax is a bitch to get off of the groove in a crown, there would still be some clearly visible on the crown if it had been waxed at some point. The only way that there's no wax at all is if it was never on there to begin with, or it was melted off.

And I'd like to officially predict that there will be severe intoxication at beer events in 2013....
