This is where Rouge excels. Their Chocolate Stout. Yum.

A purist would probably say 'yes' but I think all of us would consider them to be in the same style.

I don't know if this will answer yours or any others question on the subject but:

Young's Double Chocolate Stout is brewed by adding the chocolate during the boil. The chocolate aroma and flavor are apparent in the beer but not dominating. The chocolate aspect blends with the stout for a balanced, elegant beer.

Rogue Chocolate Stout, on the other hand, is brewed completely without chocolate. It is mashed, boiled and even fermented without touching any cocoa. Finally, chocolate is added in a secondary holding tank where it contributes all of its chocolaty goodness without having any of it boiled or fermented away. The result is a rich stout that tastes and smells as if someone crumbled a brownie into it - except without the soggy crumbs, of course.

    Credit The Spruce.

    I much prefer the Rogue.

Odell's Lugene Chocolate Milk Stout is fabulous, but unfortunately they discontinued it in bottles. They're still selling a barrel-aged version, but it is crazy overpriced and not particularly remarkable.

Not a Stout, but the most chocolatey beer I've had is Atwater Decadent Dark Chocolate Brown Ale. If you like Stouts you may well like a Brown.

I just saw it on the shelves here today, and it wasn't there last week. I believe it is back. This was not the BA version.

I'm not a purest and I think they are different styles. One is a Stout the other is a Flavored Stout.

Terrapin moo-hoochiato, a chocolate espresso milk stout is like a liquid candy bar. Mmmm. My favorite so far.

Has anyone taken a real good sniff of Samuel Smith Organic Chocolate Stout? It has the most incredible aroma - smells exactly like a tin of cocoa. I would like to have some folks blind-smell it and see if anyone thinks it is anything other than pure cocoa. Though the taste is excellent, too bad it doesn't match the aroma. Atwater Decadent Dark Chocolate Brown Ale is almost the same aroma as the Sam Smith.
