Chugging Craft Beer: Why?

I'm in a beer trading group on facebook and last summer there was a chug challenge going on where you had to donate money to a charity and post a video chugging the craft beer. I chugged PseudoSue and donated to The Jimmy Fund. Seems good right?

 

I assume they enjoy annoying other people!

 

I have a few leftover Other Half Curly Fries. If I can't trade them out, I may shotgun the first one for NYE. I've never shotgunned a beer before, but it seems like both an appropriate beer and occasion to try.

Actually, I may go ahead and save one can for that evening.

 

I'm terrible about turning sips to gulps. One of the many reasons I've not picked up any more whiskey for the house.

Wow, memories! I haven't chugged a beer since college: Jimmy Carter was president and it was Old Milwaukee! Seems like a wasteful way to enjoy good craft beer - sort of like putting ketchup on a good steak - but no judgments.

 

Taking a shot of fine whisky is also a silly thing to do, but plenty of folks do just that and no one bats an eye.

You pay for the beer you do whatever you want to do with it. Wasteful would be pouring it out.

 

If you wanna chug then go ahead and chug. Like @Ahonky said, you pay for the beer than you can do whatever you want with it. Personally, posting videos of it on social media is dumber than the actual act imo. I don't see the appeal in watching some meathead down a beer like its never been done before. People have been chugging beer since beer was around. Who are you actually impressing? Unfortunately the answer is plenty considering the amount of people out there following these clowns accounts and sensationalizing it. I mean really? There are fanboys out there of people chugging a beer? Half the college population should all be internet superstars with that mindset. This is the world we live in unfortunately. Tidepods, participation trophies and beer chugs for everyone! SMH.

 

I only really chug a beer if I'm not really enjoying it too much but spent good money on it so refuse to drain pour it

 

I am always sad to end a beer I really enjoy. The idea of hurrying that end seems self defeating, but of course the instant alcohol rush is a point in favor of the chug for folks looking to get wasted quickly.

For me, I can see the point of a bong for herb, I smoke herb not so much for the flavor, though I do enjoy it, but to get maximum high best way possible, so bonging just makes sense. But I drink beer for the flavor, the buzz is just another great thing about it, and the longer I can keep the buzz from turning into 'piss drunk' the better I enjoy both the buzz and the beer.

OTOH I really do enjoy watching those chug vids, strictly for their humor. Not sure if my favorite is when people puke, or spill it all over themselves, or the self-satisfied look of great accomplishment some of the serious chuglife folks get when they succeed at drinking a whole glass of liquid quickly.
